Hurricane Shutters?
Can anyone tell me if the know any place in Playa that makes quality hurricane shutters? This is for (near) future reference. I know it is a little late to worry about Wilma now. Hopefully the windows have not been put in my new condo yet!!

We are also interested in shutters - looking forward to a response.

It is kind of strange, there is a parallel thread running on the general board right now. I have no interest in stepping on anybody's toes here (Nancy especially). My brother owns a condo up on Calle 32 across from Las Palapas and suffered a blown out patio door during Wilma that would have been prevented by shutters.
Coincidentally, his Neighbor in the condo (Sonia Herrerias) works for a distributor of shutters and he has placed an order with her. She is very fluent in english and a very nice lady and good neighbor. Her cell phone number is 984-801-8439. She has shutters on several of the condos in their building that can be used as demonstrators as to appearance and function. If you talk to her, tell her Chuck and Mag say "hey". |

I just looked at the site for protective screens - looks almost too good to be true - but would like to hear from anyone who can vouch for the system. We are actively looking for a solution for our home in Xpu Ha which has massive openings which are perfect for cross ventilation but are real handicaps in a hurricane.

Currently, I am waiting to hear back from a company out of Riviera Beach, FL that has a branch in Playa. They make a very different type of hurricane "shutter" system ( looks like more a protective screening that is not permanently installed but is put up before impending storms using an anchoring system for the "screening" to attach to). I called this company's HQ the week between Xmas and New Years and was told that the company was closed (that week) and that someone would get back to me. They must be real busy as no one was gotten back to me. I will call them again and post any info that I get. Last edited by absoluteal; 01-08-2006 at 06:59 AM.. |
