Suggestion: I vote to close the forum to new members for the next few days
I haven't been here long. But I was around when Emily hit. Instantly after Emily we got tons new members just asking about their hotel status just after the hurricane went through. No one had any answers for them because the locals were dealing with the aftermath. So all of those threads were just a bunch of clutter and a waste of BW.
I propose that no new members are allowed until wed to at least give the locals a few days to regroup. As far as staying on top of things: Lurkers in the mean time can view the up-to-date information that the locals provide us, regarding the general welfare of the people and the condition of town. They were wonderful enough to do it with Emily and I don't suppose it will be any different this time. As of right now I am truly concerned with the people down there and I sincerely hope that everyone makes it out alright. M- |

Yes and although the idea in concept is a good one... if you are not a member of the forum you cannot post... which would mean we would be not be able to help people find their loved ones or answer questions. Even with the endless hours that have been put in by both the moderators and regular forum members alike and the server issues from the increased traffic... I think that most would agree that dealing with these issues is a small sacrifice to make knowing that we've been able to contribute and assist others during this crisis in some way, shape or forum (pun intended).

EDIT: I think I meant to say an area where newbies could read and post without being able to post to all the regular threads. They could still have read access to all threads. Hope that is a little clearer. Last edited by KevKaos : 10-26-2005 at 09:34 PM. |

Hi Montego,
I've only just seen your post. Many thanks for the thought. As long as I don't get loads of requests to run around the town checking on hotels and favourite bars (I can't possibly do all of them and get our life in order again), I'm glad to see new people joining and showing concern for Playa. It also gives us the opportunity to spread the word of how we're really doing here, compared to the 'professional' reports. |
