Sounds from everthing that I'm reading that the north end of Playa got hit the worst and the worse going north from there to Cancun. Any info on Playacar, we have a condo and some friends that stayed behind - still have not been able to connect with them. They are close to the Sams club, Concha I, ours is at Concha II.

On another board that offers reservation services to ABR, this:

There is a post that we have cancelled some reservations for next week (Oct 25):

" am writing in regards to you upcoming reservation for Akumal Beach Resort. The reports coming in from the coast are bad. The storm surge is very high and things are a mess. We must inform you that you will not be able to occupy Akumal Beach Resort. As we are unable to get ahold of property managers and owners we will not be able to sort through everything until things are settled which could take a week or so. We will be in contact once we have more information, but please know that your reservation is cancelled due to the hurricane.

Thank you. "

I think they were still rebuilding from Emily, so this hit would certainly be no help. But, some reports from Akumal say that while the damage is messy, it appears to be not nearly as bad as it could have been.
Your most accurate info, of course, will be coming from the resort itself, or the travel agent who arranged the trip for you.

Steve from the Playa Maya has a great report on conditions in Playa and his hotel. Report is located on the Playa Maya website. Sounds like Playa was hit hard but that electricity will be returning in a couple days and Yaxche restaurant would be opening tomorrow for lunch. Playa Maya had mainly restaurant damage and should be open by the end of the week. The most encouraging news was that there appears to be few if any fatalities caused by Wilma in Playa del Carmen.

Hotel Zanzibar?

Is there anyone with Info on how Hotel Zanzibar in Playa is doing? My sis and brother in law Cheri and Tony had to evacuate and are trying to get back into town but the roads are flooded. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this tragedy...

I am interested in knowing wheter I'll have someplace to stay when I get there Nov. 5, and many of the smaller hotels don't always have the web-savvy to get the information out the way Steve (who is very special) does.
Since I can't stay with Steve at Playa May, I am hoping the Posada Mariposa will be in decent shape by the time we get there.

Small group of us coming down nov.8th. Staying at Kinbe, If anyone has a chance please check it out to see if I need to make different plans. I am really looking forward to going to playa, we have reserved a jeep wrangler for our stay. I would assume they would have 307 in decent condition by then. I am just not sure how much damage was done to Kinbe. I tried contacting them but have had no response. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chad.

Hopefully, this will be of some help to you. I am also working with numerous people who are planning to come in for a wedding in February and they too are very worried. These folks are all staying at the Xaman Ha complex and I have been able to get quite a bit of information from the property managers of that particular complex. Amazingly, the damage there was minimal -- very few units have any damage at all. One of the property managers I work with also has units at numerous other condo complexes in town and they have told me that for the most part, people with plans to come down after Nov 8 should be fine. Now I know that sounds very optimistic, but I'm hearing the same thing from 3 different property managers. I think that for a wedding several months out, you should be fine. I am hoping to fly down on Wednesday as my airline tells me the airport should be open by then (we'll see...). If I do go down, I'll take a look at your hotel and see what I can find out.

Trying to get info on Playacar La Concha II. Have not been able to reach my property management people Playa-inn, suspect they are trying to regroup? I understand that some windows blown out, 2nd hand info not sure if my condo? My wife is trying to make arrangements to head down this week - her brother lives in Cancun and said would be a most likely mid-week before travel to playa is possible. Any info on Concha II or travelling to Cancun/Play would be helpful.

Message, I care:
Here is at least some info from another board:

Shangri-la Caribe lost the palapa roof over the Aventura dining area and several of the beachfront cabanas. The reopening date is scheduled prior to Dec. 18th. They also will announce actual re-opening date after further assessment

But check with your travel agent or the resort. Really, they are the only ones who will know if they will be "up" to having you large group.

Best of luck! You will look great in white!
