Blue Parrot

I didn't ask about the new Blue Parrot, most of the businesses on 5th avenue seem to be fine, some may still be waiting for their power to be restored but that will happen soon.

No idea about del Sol but I read that the beach club (Mamitas) was ripped up pretty bad...I would assume Tucan as well since they are side by side and think it will be a little while before they are back to normal...If someone has heard different please let us know..

We can't wait to get there next weekend so that we can help and donate items much needed. i have a group staying at the Royal Porto Real, wanted to make sure that some of the restaurants would be open. My friends had the option to get a full refund, I have convinced them to still go.

The Blue Parrot hotel, restaurant, bar, dancing, etc....will be open completly tomorrow, talked to the owner.

Xel-ha will be opening tomorrow also.

I too am very upset as to how the media has given bad information about Playa. They will recover quickly! We need to spread the word that Playa was NOT hit as bad as Cancun. Thanks again everyone!

I'm gutted about the airport. It's great news that all the hotels are coming back on line and opening so soon, but so frustrating that without the airport we can't get there

I am suprised too as the major german tour operators have cancelled everything till November 12. People booked until December 15 can re-book to other destinations free of charge. They didn't change that.

Pretty recent informative report from El Universal, a national newspaper. Sorry, is in Spanish.

http://www.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/312215.html

highlights:

Banorte bank branch opened today, Calle 8 and 10 Avenue.

Most of the food stores are open.

70% of restaurants are working.

2, maybe 3 gas stations (out of 8) are working.

Hotel fares going down up to 50% or more as an incentive for tourists to keep coming.

The article El Universal is interesting and helpful. Thanks! I was struck by the fact that the Ass'n of Hotels had said that 50% of the hotels in Playa would be able to open by the end of the year and that the remainder might be open in 3-4 months.

I sure agree with you. Some info on the various beaches and their condition would be helpful. I have seen indirect reports that the beach by Mamitas and Tucan have been damaged, but have not seen direct info or pics.

Beach conditions??

OK - now that the whole thing is over and with minimal injuries/death and we're safely into the aftermath portion of Wilma - I feel somewhat comfortable asking this question:

What is the condition of the beaches in the general Riviera Maya area? I've heard conflicting reports - Cancun's beach is gone. PDC is ok - Tulum's got bigger, etc. How long does it take for the beach to recover from a storm like this? Weeks? Months? Years??

Any info. would be helpful.

Thanks,

I agree entirely, I'll be there friday if they'll just let me in! We heard that the Chac-ha condos (where we're staying) were hardly damaged at all, but our friend's America West flight for this Thursday was just cancelled. Thursday is still pretty far away! Our friday frontier flight is still on (for now). I hope I'll see a few of you in 3 days!!! We'll celebrate that all you rockin' souls made it through Wilma! :p

Dont know about the north beach area, but in some of Playa Maya(Steve Ryberg) photos show some good looking beach in downtown Playa. I couldnt see any difference unless there was bad damage after those photos were taken.

Thanks,
Conditions: Ever changing
Days: yes
Weeks: yes
Months: yes
Years: yes

Steve commented in his early post Wilma account that the beach in front of Playa Maya was rocky.
Yesterday he commented that the rocks were covered.
