Received this email update about Paamul and SusieQRoo today:
"Heard from Susie and I still can't believe what she told me, but here goes.... The damage from this storm (at least in Pamuul, where she lives) was less than the damage from Emily, the last storm. She has a few fronds missing off her palapa, but other than that, no problems. She said it was even less dirty than last time. The only thing we can figure, is that the winds came from the opposite direction this time - west to east. She is still in Chetumal but is itchin' to get back and start the clean up. There is no power and probably won't be for days, but you know Susie, she'll figure something out. Oh, and all 10 or 12 or however many kitties, are fine." This is definitely good news for Paamul! Received this e-mail today:
PaaMulians, We?re sitting here by the pool at a beautiful RV park in Chutumal. Frank drew us all together. It?s a bit nicer than the Chedraui parking lot. We arrived Thursday night and watched the horror on the TV. Frank and Lisa decided to head north on Sunday with Corbin and Adrian, but it was understood that communication back probably wouldn?t occur so we decided to send a recon group back up to PaaMul. Katy Bordi and Suzie Fields drew the short stick and returned late last night with the following. Please understand that specific damage is not being reported and yours will most likely be more or less, but only a general description of what was seen. REPORT: Pictures speak louder than words! However, I won?t waste download time with them. Minor damage to Paamul! The communication tower on the restaurant is fine, I noticed on some Palapas some missing guana (sp?) Only one tree down in the park, some broken branches and of course the usual clean up of leaves water etc. We were spared by Wilma. The real damage is in Playa and Cancun. Puerto made out well. A huge sigh of relief!! We have more beach now on the south end! The question really is, how fast the infrastructure in Playa will be up and running. On my trip back to Chetumal I was passed by 2 convoys of Electrical workers heading north. The closest fuel will be Tulum, also they have working landlines for telephone. No ice, no electric, no water, no communication. can?t speak for propane. And it is anybody?s guess as to when utilities will be online. Just got word that Playa has cell and electric in some places! This email might be moot and the communication systems already restored but I really doubt it. My understanding is that power, telephone lines, and cell towers originate north of Paamul which was slammed and my guess is as good as yours as to restoration??.one week??six weeks??we?ll know when we get it back. A web site good for making posts or reading others is http://www.stormcarib.com/ The best of luck to all of you and remember to keep thinking about those families of our dear friends the Paamul staff and their possible losses. >From the Yax-Ha RV Park, Bruce & Katy Bordi, the Bardwell?s two parrots, and Hamlet Ray & Alicia Garcia, Jackson & Toni, two doggies and a cat Susie Fields and her cat Dennis & Lee-Anne Weeks and Kirsten |

To the parrots and their companions
To the Paamul crew at Yax-Ha RV Park,
Have been monitoring various thread for news on Paamul and Playa and folks we know. Thrilled to read your note and see the parrots mentioned in your signature. Please give Quique and Rafiki some special treats from their original parents. We're booked to return to Playa on Saturday and I can't wait to see them again. Is Coco the wonder dog with you guys, too? (from B and P) |

Just thought I would report that, as of yesterday afternoon, there is still no power in Paamul, which is why I am currently at the Zanzibar with Tony and Cheri, bless their hearts. Though the weather has been delightfully cool for sleeping without AC, I have done about all I can do there without power and the novelty has worn off! So, I am being the tourist in town here for a couple of days, where all is - mostly - fine.

Nice to hear from you Suzie. Bet you can't wait for things to get back to normal at home, although I am guessing that Tony and Cheri are being the perfect hosts and that you are enjoying each others company. Hope Paamul gets its power back soon for all of you and that you are enjoying playing the tourist for a wee bit. Take care and best wishes.

Hi Susita! Glad that you're amongst friends! I know that you want to go home, but take a little time to hang out. Besides, I'm sure Tony and Cheri need some help cleaning up the place a bit!
Big hugs to you, Tony, Cheri and EVERYONE else you run into that wants a Shammy *hug*
