Politics and Religion can be argued forever and never be resolved. Why doesn't everybody just go to Playa and chill out. The US is a great Nation and so is Canada, how fortunate we all to live where we live.

Aw, James, you're no fun. I was really getting into this socialism versus democracy, etc. I don't consider that politics, Iguess. Politics is what happens in Washington, DC. The other involves philosophies of governing. Oh well. I'd just like to pay fewer taxes so I could play more.

alright, gotta jump in here
Proud Canadian here...
Just a couple of misunderstandings.... Right now, in the last few weeks of October, here in Vancouver and its outlying areas we have had the joy of enjoying sunshine, day in day out, and 18 degree celsius temperatures. Show me a north-eastern state that matches that. We often laugh with the Americans that we meet down there who ask about our 'cold, cold' place back home. Most of these people live in states where the weather is colder on an average day in March than it is all year in Vancouver! So we are overtaxed and our money is crap, but hey, we have great beer, and it's cheaper for us to fly to Mexico than our American neighbours! Cheers, eh! |

I love the fact that it gets 'too cold' in Canada, or the fact that we get 'snow' is such an amazement! Yes Canada is notorious for the above mentioned facts, BUT, aren't there 4 seasons in a year? Canada enjoys each. Doesn't 3/4 of the States get the 4 seasons as well? I'm a proud Canadian who hates snow and cold weather. However, I would never leave for the sake of running away from it. I'll take Canadian weather anyday. I've been to Sweden, Malmo and Norkopping (sp?), and to tell you the truth, they weren't too wonderful in the summer (2 months).
As for the whole celsius debate, my cousins lived in Canada for most of their lives, about 5 years ago, they moved to Jacksonville, FL and have already forgotten our whole temperature system. However, they're still Canadian in the sense that some Jacksonville residents find their 'accents' amusing. Apparently we say 'about' as 'aboot' and 'coupons' differently. LoL. This whole issue is amusing to me because take an American and a Canadian, have them walk down a street, and you can't tell the difference between the two. |

I agree totally. I am as proud a Canadian as they get, but everywhere I have been, I have noticed that a day at the beach no matter where, is a lot better than a day at work.....Getting really dry waiting for those Dos XX
and having trouble with that wait!!!! |

Canada and Mexico and Memphis
Living in the middle of the USA and having been to a few places in North America, I have 2 favorite places to visit, both equally wonderful. The west coast of Vancouver Island (Sooke and north) and Playa Del Carmen. Dream is to have a home at both. My wife and I will be in Playa on Nov 5 for our 20th anniversary.

My mom lives in Sooke! We love the island, talking further north on the west side, you must have been to Long Beach/Tofino. Isn't it beautiful up there? Beautiful exapansive soft sand beaches...and great surfing!
I love the beach anywhere, but Playa's is the best! I live in White Rock, which is right on the ocean, I live on a cliff with a wide ocean view. It's beautiful, but I wish it was the Caribbean I was staring at!! (three more months, I can't wait.....) |

Point well taken James, but you miss my point, which is that I love Canada and I'll continue to vacation there no matter what the cost. My motivations to visit Canada do not include the exchange rate. I love the place and I'd go there if it cost me 3 times as much.
Oh, and BTW, A tall latte at Starbucks in Downtown Chicago will cost you just under 4 bucks USD. I make em at home in my kitchen for about 30 cents. Of course the Espresso maker cost me 1000 USD, but it's a long term investment. Hmmm... According to my calculations I've had about 100 lattes from this machine.....hmmm...mumble......cipher......carry the 3......Eureka! 170 more lattes and I break even! YAY!
