Anna vs. the Canadians
[post split from Ikal del Mar post when the Canadian exchange rate was mentioned...}
That whole Canadian dollar thing really gets Anna and I chuckling. |

The funny thing with 'you Canadians' is that you seem to be confused about the fact that your dollar is a different currency than the US dollar. It only happens to have the same name. There are Hong Kong dollars, Belize dollars and Australian dollars, but they aren't US dollars either. Maybe it's easier to understand the whole currency thing if you're European and used to a multitude of different monies (not anymore, of course). It's like saying (before the Euro) that it's so much more expensive here for Italians, because they have to pay thousands of Italian dollars for a beer here! It's just kind of funny... :wink:

Why not call 'em Canadian Pesos instead?
That way all you hosers can feel like you're getting a better deal than everyone else here on your beers, eh. (this message typed in a Bob McKenzie accent) |

It's true, Anna. When I lived in France and calculated everything in FF, (except for the stuff I'd buy next door in Switzerland which has a franc 5 times as big) I laughed at the folks back home in Canada who were always moaning about the Can. $ in relation to the US$. But when you are spending money in the US or in a place as US-synched as Playa, it just hurts to multiply what "sounds" like a good price by 1.5 or so!!
Maybe we should officially change our money's name to "loonie", which is what we call the dollar coins. Barb PS to James, you do a great mackenzie Brothers accent... are you using a Canadian keyboard? (Will I have to pay for this in January? Can I bring appeasing gifts of maple syrup, strong ale or peppermints?) |

Canadian pesos?? I like the sound of that. I think if I ever have the fortune (mis) of running into James I'll get all of my hoser friends and chuck kraft dinner boxes at him. Just for fun of course.
I admit I am confused, but its not about the fact that our doller is different than the US doller. I am confused about the fact Anna knows people that actually think they are the same. Who are these people?? Better question... why do you know them?? D |

money of course
Ok OK, I am up and back at the grind...taking out time for my continuing dose of the "board". James and Anna...I realize the difference in the currencies, believe me, but as Barb sez, it hurts like heck to pay 1.5 times as much for something, especially when so much of our economy is US based, and, showing my age again, can easily remember the days I used to slide down from University to Montana for Sunday beers, and our dollar was as par with the US, and a few years before that even a few cents in our behalf. THAT is what hurts...
Besides, I just like to whine...Dougie |

Dove, would that be a Bare Naked Ladies reference?
Dougie, I remember when we used to get in trouble for using Canadian nickels in the candy machine on roller skate nights at church in Michigan. As today, I blamed Canada. ( :wink: ) |

Montana? My home stomping grounds, and yes I've been in Edmonton. I was born in Wolf Point, Montana -- home of the Wild Horse Stampede!
I'm afraid you Canadians will have to vote in some new politicians and rid yourselves of some of your expensive social programs before your dollar will recover. Your tax burden scares me. It's bad enough here in the US. I'd hate to pay them in Canada. |

yep
JAH...You are sooooo right..When you only get a bit more than half your paycheck because of Federal and Provincial taxes, it hurts...You get an education to make more money, finally do make more, and they just hammer you all the harder to give to those who can't or won't work for it. It looks like it will only get worse too...
