Yes. I think the more complete explanation is scheduled flights in are canceled until October 28. Flights will resume on October 29th if the airport is functional. However I do expect that flights will resume on October 29 (or earlier?). After all, they are flying in and out of Cancun during the day right now.

(Yes I know I will get corrected, and be told that the planes are not arriving and only leaving, but do the math before you post).

I booked with American this afternoon. I decided to leave some extra time for any unexpected delays with the repairs and booked for November 2nd (one of the first flights in on that day). I could have booked with America West and nearly did. It is odd to see that you can buy a ticket when they are not flying.

America West

Our friends were scheduled to to Cancun in America West this Thursday and when they called today to check the status they were told that AW would have no flights going in until this Sunday, this is more updated than what is on their website. I think they have rebooked for Sunday - they really need to get in and check on the condo.

I would recommend calling your airline directly, even if you booked through a TA for more updated airport/airline info

FRONTIER & EXPEDIA

My boyfriend and I were scheduled to fly in Friday on Frontier, and although when I called they would not confirm that they would really be flying in to Cancun on friday, and offered to let me rebook, they said to call them twice a day for the most updated info (not to expect it fast enough from their website). I don't want to have to push the trip back, and finagle it with my job.

I actually booked the Frontier flight with Expedia and they have a "Hurricane Policy" in effect through the 30th:

Expedia's hurricane policy:
Cancellation or change fees associated with Expedia travel bookings will be waived as long as we are notified prior to your scheduled arrival/check-in time.
We'll advocate for you with our travel partners to waive their fees. (Airline tickets, for example, are ultimately subject to the change rules of the individual carrier.)
We'll help you make new travel arrangements, if needed.

I just called Expedia and the person I talked to must have only seen our most unfavorite sensationlized media. She was shocked I still wanted to go. Whatever.

Anyone else flying Frontier out of Denver anytime soon?

Have been checking the USAirways site frequently and until today - they said that you would need to reschedule if your original flight was 10/24 -10/30. This is the update that is on the website now:

Due to emergency conditions affecting the airport listed below, US Airways will allow passengers traveling to or from the these locations to change their flights. Please check flight information for latest details.

Airports Affected by Hurricane Wilma

October 18 - 30, 2005
Belize City, Belize

October 18 - Nov 16, 2005
Cancun, Mexico
Cozumel, Mexico

Re-accomodation Procedure for Hurricane Wilma
Passengers originally scheduled to travel to or from affected airports above, on the dates specified, will be able to make the changes outlined below to their itineraries. For flights originally scheduled for this time period, US Airways will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation or ticketing requirements.

The entire itinerary can be moved forward or delayed, up to seven days from the scheduled origination date. The length of the trip cannot be changed.

Full value of wholly unused tickets can be applied toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, with travel to originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date.

Passengers who traveled to Cozumel, Cancun, and Belize may return from any one of these cities. Mexico may also be used as an alternate for return travel. transportation to the departure airport is at the customers own expense. For Cancun and Cozumel, passengers can change their reservations for up to one year from the original date of issue as long as the ticket is reissued by November 16, 2005.

Not sure if that means we can't travel until November 16th or they are allowing us to change our tickets if we are scheduled for that time frame.

We are scheduled to arrive in PDC on 11/05/05 - I am calling the airlines for clarification tomorrow.

From Amsterdam (Schiphol) it seems Martinair has started flying again although the planes are re-routed to Merida instead. Now I just need to find out how to get from Merida to Playa. I did book a pickup service from Hotel Tortuga. Perhaps they feel like a bit of a de-tour? I'm leaving Nov 2nd so I'm still hoping that they will switch back to Cancun before that.

Another Usair change!!!!!!!!!

I am totally going crazy. I just checked the Usair site again and now the date for rebooking has been changed AGAIN! to Jan. 18th. However, my flight still has not been cancelled. You talk about a roller coaster-one minute I am very optimistic and the next deflated. What does this mean? Are the airlines just trying to discourage travelers , what? Maybe someone like Shammy can let us know what is the thought process for the fact that the dates getting changed.

Need voucher before going to airport????

Again as I have posted several times already, people cannot get out of Cancun at the airport even if they have a flight and ticket. ALL PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LEAVE AND HAVE A TICKET NO MATTER WHAT THE DATE, TIME, AIRLINE, ETC. MUST GO TO THE MEXICANA AVIATION OFFICE LOCATED:

MEXICANA AVIATION
AV. COBA
PLAZA AMERICA (NOT PLAZA LAS AMERICAS)
DOWNTOWN CANCUN
BETWEEN TULUM AVE. AND BONAMPAK
THEY WILL BE PLACED ON A LIST AND GIVEN A SPECIAL PASS OR
SOMETHING TO ENTER THE AIRPORT.

PEOPLE ARRIVING TO THE AIRPORT WITHOUT FOLLOWING THE PROCEDURE WILL BE TURNED AWAY.

WE DON'T BELIEVE THIS PROCESS OF RETURING FLIGHTS WILL BE DONE UNTIL THURSDAY AT THE EARLIEST. AGAIN IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT AIRLINE, DATE, TIME, NOTHING MATTERS, ALL RETURNS ARE BEING COORDINATED FROM THE ADDRESS ABOVE.

Maya, all that is saying is that if you are flying between now and January 18th, you can do any of the following outlined items.....

1. For flights originally scheduled for this time period, US Airways will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation or ticketing requirements.

2. The entire itinerary can be moved forward or delayed, up to seven days from the scheduled origination date. The length of the trip cannot be changed.

3. Full value of wholly unused tickets can be applied toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, with travel to originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date.

4. For Cancun and Cozumel, passengers can change their reservations for up to one year from the original date of issue as long as the ticket is reissued by January 15, 2006.

Hope this helps you a bit.

I hadn't heard anything like this before! Anyone else have any information regarding flights leaving Mexico? "WE DON'T BELIEVE THIS PROCESS OF RETURING FLIGHTS WILL BE DONE UNTIL THURSDAY AT THE EARLIEST. " Several people have commented about people they know who have been flown out (probably from Merida), so I'm guessing this is just regarding those leaving from Cancun? I know that Frontier (who I'm scheduled to fly with TO Cancun this Friday-not yet cancelled) has 2 flights leaving Cancun this afternoon and 1 from merida today. I'm a little confused - does anyone else have info on this?
