Airport info

Please, please does anyone have any current--concrete--info on the airport? So many rumors. Will it open to flights out by Saturday? Has anyone gotten out since 10/22?

Can't Shammy and I convince you non-parrotheads to at least spell his name right?
All together now, Playa Parrotheads, B-U-F-F-E-T-T (that's 2 Ts)!!

Wonder how his Cancun Margaritaville weathered the storm... his places in New Orleans and Key West have taken a beating lately, too!

American Airllines just cancelled all passenger flights into Cancun for Friday, October 28. Also as of today, the Blue Parrot had no water and wasn't operational yet.

Looks like a few more days before we get there, but we're still coming!

On Delta's website (www.delta.com), it is clearly stated that the airport is expected to reopen on November 12th... I expected to travel to PDC on Nov 3rd. Question is: do I rebook on a later date or do I go somewhere else?

Tough one...

Pierre: Hang in there with the rest of us! It will either work out or you'll be sleeping on the beach! Life could be worse

I'm with you, Pierre, except on Air Transat...
I really, really want to go back to Playa: my travelling companion is keen, but not as committed (I know, maybe I should be). I have had no response from our hotel. Air Canada may or may not be going in to CUN. I have already paid deposits on our Fat Cat and Coba tours.... and I really don't want to go somewhere else to be a lazy tourist, when I might be helpful (at least economically) in Playa....
Big Sigh!

A guy working with us was stuck in Tulum during the storm, he managed to get to Chetumal and flow back to Mexico city on Monday evening.

I'll hang in there no prob xqqzme. But we really need that airplane, cuz' those beaches in Montreal aren't that great, especially in November...

BarbC, from what I've seen and read, most hotels are already accepting people from PDC going south towards Tulum. The airport is the problem. My suggestion to help spead things up is to go back to the old push the button for the green/red light system at customs.

The airport IS the problem.

Honestly, I don't think anyone really understands (or like myself, just doesn't WANT to!) how bad the damage there is. To hear people say that they're going to fly in there this weekend...that's just not going to happen.

Airport news

News on Radio Scotland today (Thursday 8am)is that Cancun Airport only open during daylight because of damage to radar.
Many reports of tourists still stuck in shelters due to damage to their hotels and shortages of food & water, not knowing when they will get home.

When will the cancun airport open again? Is the road to Cancun open? We have confirmed flight on Saturday> Will we be able to get out? There are so many rumers going on in Playa about the airport in cancun. Do we need to leave the night before in order to stand in line top wait for the airport to open??? Is it better to leave from Merida?????

Just looking for local info. Mi esposa y \Mi have been in Playa del Carmen since the 16 th of October. I am not complaining I just wish to return to America as soon as possible since Mi amore is a school tracher and wants/needs to get back las ninas para en la US

Margaritaville Article

I found the article. It was from USA Today. It said:

A “T” was all that was left of T.G.I. Friday's front facade. Pat O'Brien's — where the tour guides gathered last week — seemed to have collapsed into the Margaritaville restaurant next door.

I have children at Riu Tequila and have been on the phones and online trying to solve the mystery of how to get them home asap.

Here is what I've learned so far....

As of yesterday the procedure of having to get a voucher before heading to Cancun Airport was in effect (see my earlier post). This may continue today. It has not been decided yet. This pertained to everyone with confirmed flights - all airlines. It was put in effect so the Mexican authorities could manage who should go home first. Preference was supposedly given to Women and children and large tour groups. See the Mexican Airlines website.

Continental has 2 flights going out today to Houston only. (see Continental's site and hit Wilma information)

There are still horrible lines at the airport and people are no longer being sent to Merida SP? because there are already so many people there, few flights and very few hotel rooms, etc.

My children have chosen to stay at Riu Tequila where they were bussed to from a shelter in Cancun until Sunday when they have confirmed flights from Cancun Airport.

Continental and DElta had automatically changed their flights from the days and times that they were originally scheduled to come home to Sunday at the same times since they expect to be able to fly "semi-normally" on Sunday.

I hope this happens.

Here's the latest from Delta...

Hurricane Wilma has impacted travel in select areas of Mexico, Florida, and the Bahamas. Service to and from Cancun or Cozumel is expected to resume by Saturday, November 12, 2005. If you are traveling to, from, or through any of these areas, check flight status frequently for up-to-the-minute information about your flight arrangements. To get updates sent directly to your wireless communication device, be sure to sign up for Flight Notifications.
