He said he had been instructed not to give out information (he resisted giving me what little I got) to guests yet and that the reservations center (also in Cancun) for all the Sunset properties should be up and running in the near future to give out further information. I could only get out of him that the 1st floor of the property had been hit hard but not whether any structural damage had occurred.

We are scheduled to be there at Christmas and being there in PDC without the pool doesn't bother me if they can get the restaurant back up and running. They are industrious folks down in PDC and will move heaven and earth to get it back up and running I am sure.
Hmmmnn. We've been waiting to hear word on Fisherman's. We're supposed to be there in early December. Guess we'll just have to wait a little longer to hear some more details. We don't spend a lot of time there during the day so the pool's no problem, same with the restaurant. Hope those new buildings are structurally okay though. Flights are nonrefundable so we'll find another place to stay if need be.

Please do not POST IN ALL CAPS... as requested in the forum guidelines. This is considered yelling online. Also per the forum guidelines... I'd recommend editing your previous post to eliminate your email address. If you really want to include your email address in a post, I'd recommend doing so as I have in the quote of your post above.

Even the absence of the restaurant would not bother me since I guess they would not be charging the All Inclusive fees. I just neeeeeeeeeeeed to get away! PDC is a slice of heaven and this hurricane damage won't change that for long.

Here is a link to the web site. Look down to where it says "Traveler's Advisory: Hurricane Wilma". They are only listing names for Dreams Cancun and Sunscape Puerto Aventuras right now.

SECRETS, DREAMS, SUNSCAPE GUEST INFO

Right... at least you wouldn't think so- we'll just have to wait and see....(we almost never use the restaurant as we own a timeshare and don't have to opt for the AI plan- too many great restaurants around)

Their responses were generic, and they did not address questions concerning specific buildings (ie TumTahs restaurant on the beach). However, I expect they are very busy, so I don't blame them for being to the point.

We are traveling to the Mayan for 2 weeks on Nov 20th, and so long as this info holds true, were still coming! However, they did say we could cancel/reschedule at any time (including up to the last minute) should we change our minds ... good to know.

All our thoughts and best wishes go out to all the hard working people down there who have suffered through this. See you in a month!!
First, let me say THANK YOU to all the locals that are taking the time and effort to report updates on this site and the many others that I have visited in the last few days. My prayers are with you all and I am so glad to hear that all is going so much better than what the news reports have led us to believe.

My husband and I are to celebrate our 1st anniversary/belated honeymoon starting on November 13th. I have been searching trying to find information re: the Mayan Palace and the damage it may have received and the Real Playa del Carmen. I found this information on the RCI website and thought I would pass it on. Not specific info but it may help someone else out there:
"Confirmed RCI exchanges to Cancun, Cozumel, and other locations along the eastern Yucatan Peninsula have been canceled in light of damage and flooding reported by resorts in these areas. Additionally, reports are beginning to come from resorts in Florida."

I have not been able to confirm how long, what resorts it impacts, etc when they reference the "Cancun/Cozumel/eastern Yucatan" area since the only resorts they list on the website with dates to re-open are all in Florida. Very confusing since RCI works with the Blue Mosquito and I have found on another thread that they should be up and running very quickly.

If anyone has any other information regarding these two resorts I would appreciate it. Like many others, we are planning to come to PDC regardless to show our support, spend our money, enjoy the people and help clean up if we need too!

[quote=Shammy]That's Liberty Travel, and they don't have the full picture yet, no travel agents have anything that could be considered to be reliable information at this time...so I take that as "personal opinion".

Shammy, you are so right about this statement. I'm a travel agent, and I have been trying to explain to people that we have no information that is fact, so I would rather say wait and see, than give them false hope. I know its hard to be patient, but they need to realize that it has only been a couple of days.

Reef Club Playacar?

I'm not sure if the Reef Club is categorized as a "small hotel" or not but I figured I would check here and see if anyone has any info. I have seen a lot of the reports from both north and south of the Reef Club but not from this actual hotel. Very happy to hear that things are not as bad as the news reports are making it out to be and to see some reports that wilma may have actually added more beach after the erosion earlier this year. We are scheduled to go on November 14 so any information would be helpful as we try to decide what to do from here. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the area and we do hope to see you soon!

I just spoke with my TA & Mayan resorts at 2:25 p.m. Pacific Time. Mayan Palace Riviera is scheduled to be fully operational as of this Friday and they continue to have guests staying there as I write this. They had even been notified that the airport (Cancun) will begin to allow some flights to return as of 3P.M. this afternoon - limited but definately moving forward. However, at the same time I was speaking with them I went to American West airlines site and found this:
Rescheduling Travel to/from Cancun and Cozumel

Passengers originally scheduled for travel between October 18 and October 25, 2005 will be able to make the changes outlined below:
  • For flights originally scheduled for this time period, US Airways will waive the standard change fee, advance reservation or ticketing requirements.
  • The entire itinerary can be moved forward or delayed, up to seven days from the scheduled origination date. The length of the trip cannot be changed.
  • Full value of wholly unused tickets can be applied toward the purchase of a ticket to an alternate destination, with travel to originate within seven days of the scheduled origination date.
  • A reservation can be changed for up to one year from original date of issue as long as the ticket is reissued by November 16, 2005
Hope this begins to help a little with all the questions. I caution, just as others have, to check with their TA's and ask a lot of questions to assure accurate information. Misunderstandings and confusion are rampant but should become clearer with each passing day.

We are scheduled to be there November 5th and are really hoping to still be able to go providing we can fly in!!!. Good news about Hotel La Tortuga because we are there from the 12th to the 19th as well!!!
