Bus Service

When everything is up and running, are you able to catch the bus from the Mayan Palace to PDC? I plan on coming into town everyday to contribute to local economy. I would rather not have to take a taxi all the time.

Thank You in advance

I'm going with a friend. From what I understand The Mayan Palace is 15 minutes north of PDC on the beach.

Try a colectivo. Cheaper than the Taxi and a good way to meet some locals.

No they are minivans that transport people up and down 307. It's a very local experience... as this is how many locals travel on a daily basis between their jobs and home. That said, be prepared to utilize your spanish speaking skills and for the possibility of cramped quarters if you're traveling during peak commuting hours.

Sorry to point you in an unhelpful direction, but if you search "Mayan Palace", I know there are trip reports from people who stayed there and did use the collectivo system. You may have to pick through a lot, though.

I think what they did was ride on a shuttle the hotel provides out to 307. From there you can catch a collectivo or, if time becomes an issue, flag down a cab. I don't think there is a bus stop there. I'm not certain how likely it is for you to get a seat on a PDC-bound collectivo from the MP; it's close enough to Cancun that the collectivo may still be full. (The collectivos don't leave their origination point until they are full; then passengers get off along the way, and others get on)

Your best strategy may be to take cabs from the Mayan Palace to PDC. Then take collectivos from PDC to the Mayan Palace. Unless you're dragging in terribly late; then it's best to cab both ways.

You can also check with the resort itself. It seemed to me when I stayed there that they had a bus at least one night a week that would go to Playa for a night of partying.

Taxis returning empty from the Cancun airport to Playa will stop if you flag them down. Collectivo fare from the MP to Playa last year was 20 pesos, so you can bargain up from there; if the driver won't haggle he gets nothing so it's worth a try.
