Ferry To Cuba???
Ok, I just finished having a conversation with a friend of a friend who came back from two weeks on the Yucatan, including several days in Playa. He seemed to be well informed (basing that on what I have learned here on this board) about all things Playa. Now one of the things he told me was that there was a ferry making a run between Playa and Cuba. He did not have a lot of info as he told me his wife would not even consider such a trip. He said he had heard that when you arrive that a sheet is inserted into your passport and stamped, then removed when you leave so US customs wont be alarmed. Is there any truth to this? Has anyone made the trip? He also said that because of this run, great Cuban cigars could be gotten at the ferry dock in Playa for cheap! An added bonus! I have always wanted to see some of the historic sights in Cuba, and think this might be a heck of a side trip. But I am an American, and I dont want to do anything horrible, just visit some interesting places and meet new people. I would appreciate any info on this.... see ya all next Tuesday!!

I have a friend who flies over there from Cancun and the paper slip in your passport trick is right on. He has done it so many times I couldn't even count. I'm a little chicken but intrigued. I've also heard mixed stories about Cuba -- my friend obviously loves it, but some work friends of mine from the UK said it was "depressing," but didn't go into details.
However a ferry I have not heard of -- looks pretty far away on the map to me. Very interesting! |

dibiggs, you're right about the cruise ship. I don't know if it runs anymore, but you didn't really get to see Cuba anyway. A plane ticket is 180-200 usd from Cancun, and sometimes it includes hotel for a night or two.
I know many Americans that have gone. I know one where they did stamp the passport, so bring your driver's license as well, just in case you need to get home with that. |
