...boring but practical question....

This summer I'm staying in PDC for a couple of weeks. I imagine it will be hot and humid. Bering this in mind I would like to pack light. Is there any place to do laundry, like a laundromat? If so, do they have laundry service so you can drop off and pick up.

Do the hotels have laundry service?

There are probably 50 places to do or have done laundry. There is even a place on 30th where you get 15 minutes of internet use free with the service.

Keep it clean.

Thanks for the info, I assume it's as easy as asking a local where to find a laundry service and that the prices would be somewhat less than in the US?

Sure, just walking around the fifth avenue area, you'll bump into a couple. I go to 34th and 30th Ave. Lavanderia del Caribe, I think. Hot water (not common) good dryers, very clean and new.

We usually blow about 10 to 12 bucks (100 or so pesos) at the laundry for 4 washers and dryers plus soap and bleach. I have no idea what it costs in the states. Do you know of a good internet site? Maybe something called USA Info? Hopefully run by locals!

Just remember that if you use a "drop off and pick up manana" full service laundry, "manana" may actually turn out to be the day after tomorrow! No problem if you plan and if you are on manana-time too.

Do you need to bring coins to the laundromat, or do they have change there?

I don't know of any laundromats that run on pesos. You normally pay at the cashier and they give you a token for the machine.

Some places just count your machines used.

Better yet, bring a small pile of hand-washable items and skip the laundry all together. Two VERY light-weight shirts a couple pairs of supplex swim trunks with the built-ins to hold your gonads in place and that can pass for shorts. A pair of tevas. A good hat and sunglasses. All those items can all be washed out, hung in the shower and they'll be dry in an hour unless it's rainy.
For women a light silk shift a bathingsuit a pareo. All easily hand-washable.
You don't need to get very dressed up in Playa, right, James?

We always use the laundry on 26th between 5th and 10th. It costs about 40 pesos for 4 kilos. You can pick it up, washed, dried and folded in about 4 hours. We usually drop ours off in the am and pick it up in the afternoon. Of course we always drop it off the day before we leave - so we can bring home clean clothes instead of dirty.

I have also used Hannah's located on 10th between 26th and 28th. A little more expensive - but the service is about the same.

We've used the one on 4th down the street from El Chinos.

I'm with Peggy, I like to drop it off dirty and pick it up clean!

Vacation time is too precious to sit in a laundromat for me!!

I had a pair of Jean Capri pants & a pair of my hubbys Cargo khakis washed through the hotel. I don't know what they did but my good god they were so soft & pressed, they smelled so good. They haven't looked that good since they were new. Cost me $9 but so worth it.....
