Yes, the RH is in Playacar, next to the Riu Playacar on one side, and the Allegro on the other. The Riu is open now, the Allegro is shot for about as long as the RH is. But the situation as I see it is that both the Allegro and the RH have pools and sun deck areas RIGHT off the beach (and in the Allegro's case - what beach?!), whereas at the Riu (and most other hotels on that strip), these areas are set further back. If the waves were pounding further up on shore than usual, which they were, that would put them right about IN the pools and surrounding common areas, but still on the beach at the Riu. SO the Riu might have had trees down and piles of sand where they shouldn't be, but the RH and the Allegro could have lost major facilities. The other thing is the RH charges A LOT of money - and they must have everything top notch before they open up again. They can't charge anyone their normal prices and still be doing work on the property, or have some amenities not available as they have a very high standard to uphold.
All of that - my two cents! |

I went to the Royal Hideaway and they work very hard at not letting their workers disrupt you to the point that I felt bad for them on some projects. They use manual tools to do all landscaping etc. After two days of hand sanding the bridges so that they could restain them they finally got to use an electric sander for a few hours a day. They are very service oriented there.

I would have thought that it would have spoiled others for me as well but... I keep in mind that the trip was a special occasion. I wouldn't be able to go back to the area if I had waited until I could afford their prices.
So we tried Barcelo Maya and though the service and food is totally different the resort and location won us over. We are going back for our second trip in February. |

Royal Hideaway Update
Hello,
I had booked this resort before Wilma struck for March/2/06. I just got off the phone with my travel agent who has told me we need to re-schedule or cancel. Apparently they are pushing back the open date now to June. With the pictures Shammy showed the other day - I am not at all surprised by this. |

Rh
One of my friend is in Playa, while talking about the RH as damaged, he replies me using the word destroyed.. that's the truth, but I think these buildings are on the beach, they are not the hotel itself
What is strange looking at the pics, it's the palm trees are in a good state !! |
