Right now, they say they are "not opening prior to Jan 31, 2006". Obviously, don't plan a trip before then...and I would even shy away from Feb. at this point, until they update further to include an actual REopening date, not just a "not opening prior to" date.

Royal Hideaway Update please
I will probably get flamed for this but here goes anyways. we are not comming to Playa in 5 years wondering when the beaches will be ready. However we would like to know the best time to schedule our trip in the near furute. we can not get away from drugevill till the first of the year. will the Roayl Hideaway be fully operational by then? Yes, been there done that and loved it. Playa is a great place! Loved the beach and the people.
thanks |

I don't even understand the question re: 5 years vs. first of the year...
But as I said in the other thread you started, the Royal hideaway will not be open until at LEAST Jan. 31st, and even that's not a sure bet. Oh, and the beaches in Playacar are fine...it's the resort that has "issues". |

Shammy, Thanks for the prompt responce. It looks like we will have to find an alternative resort. My shcdule doe s not allow for me to set a date then be moved due to it being not ready. I saw on a different message you said there is no resort comparable to the RH (and I agree). You mentioned the Eldorado as being one of the next best, do youknow it's condition? Thanks |

Here is a seriouse question about the beach. we sent our daughter to the Secrets excellance reosrt for her honeymoon last May and she said there was alot of seaweed. There was none the year before when we were at the RH. Does the seaweed just come and go based on weather patterns in the Gulf? |

Not so much the weather patterns..it depends more on where your resort is located. The beaches further north, where Secrets Excellence and the Paradisus are just happens to be plagued with some seaweed issues, and the ocean is not that beautiful turquoise color that you see in the Playacar area. To my knowledge, there has never been a problem with seaweed in Playacar, and the beaches actually look very good in most areas right now. The Allegro still had no beach as of about 3 weeks ago, but that's been the case for a while now. The RH beach is a bit smaller than it was last year, and after Wilma I'm not sure if it got bigger (some did), smaller (again, some did) or stayed basically the same.

There's two El Dorado's, the Seaside Suites and the Royale. Seaside Suites really isn't comparable to the RH, so I think you'd be more interested in the Royale. They are closed until 11/25, and the casita suites will be closed longer, they say now until 12/2 but that can change too.
Honestly, I'd really look into the Riu Palace, it's very nice. If you've already stayed at the RH, you must have walked past the Palace. Even the Royal Porto Real is nice. Check into all three, EDR, Palace and Royal Porto, that's what I'd do! Oh, and don't forget about Secrets Capri..probably the closest thing to the RH right now. |

Excellence is quite a bit bigger, but has lots to offer in the way of more bars, restaurants, bigger theater, more pool areas and a bigger spa. There are some cute shops at Excellence, including a darn good cigar shop! Capri is smaller and has less of the above mentioned things, but I really liked Capri when I was there, it had everything I would have needed if staying for a week. Capri also has a better beach if comparing the two as well. Then again, I liked Excellence too, so really, it just depends on what you think is important! |

Is Excellence expected to be fully recovered by January, or would I expect to see some construction still ongoing? |
