I know, too long a wait! But at least it's all set up and paid for, except for the food and booze. Have to have something to look forward to in order to get through the winter!

I just spent the whole day today at Tukan. They did not charge for chairs etc today.

We had lunch and drinks, the lunch menu is still limited right now but the beer was cold, the sun was warm, the sea was beautiful and the beach is coming back! Ahhhh...paradise!!!!

You've made my morning. I prefer Tukan so I'm glad to hear they are doing well. I can't wait until February to stick my toes in the sand, have a cold beverage and just kick back and relax there. Thank you for the update.

I just ran by Mamitas and Tucan. I haven't been by in a few days. As Linda said, Tucan has chairs, food/drinks, and a staff anxiously ready to serve. Just no water in the pool yet! Mamitas doesn't have chairs out yet, but I saw a delivery of food and action in the kitchen. Good news! They are putting up large palm column things to be the base of a porch/deck (I guess) in front of the building. All of the debris (broken pool, bathrooms about on their side, fallen trees, trash, etc.) that was to the side of the main building is totally gone and there is plenty of beach area there. I wish I had photos from each day. The progression is incredible! And to think that my friend in Florida still doesn't have electricity...these workers are pretty amazing!

Since you just went by there....did you come down from 5th/1st street or from along the beach?

If from the streets, did you notice if the sand reached the 1st street condo's just west of Mamita's/Tukans??? From photo's and the now famous/insane video it looks as if the sand is/was all the way to 1st street!

Anyway, excellent news from the clubs and we just can't wait for Nov. 20th.

Thanks for the update.

How's the Zubul Reef Club looking? Any rebuilding or entrepreneurial action at all?

I could be wrong, but I never saw the sand reach all the way up to 1st. That video was during the hurricane I believe. Either way, I came the street way. The road to Mamitas and Tucan is still dirt, so that may look like sand in photos. Like before, when that dirt road meets 1st the road becomes brick. Hope that answers your question!

I am not 100% sure, but I think this is the pretty large resort north of Las Palapas? Kinda the last large place before it gets pretty quiet and secluded? If so, they have been busy working there like everyone else. I even saw two sets of tourists there leaving on boats today (one looked like a boat trip the other was a dive boat), so either they met there or they are open. I believe the broken windows have also been replaced. The section that sits farther away from the beach looked fine to me (from the beach).

I'm glad too! If I weren't here, I'd actually like to come soon while it's a little quieter than normal. It says a lot about you to not be scared off by photos and media. I'm sure you'll have a great trip!! See you soon!

Thank you so much for all the reports. This board has been a great help in our decision not to cancel our trip. Every thing looks like a go for this Sunday the 13th. By Sunday evening I should be drinking beer in Playa. We had a few hitches in the flights, still flying Northwest, but couldn't get all the way back to our home town due to full flights and cancelations, but have it worked out so all is good.

Thanks again for all your help
Doug

Despite the airlines' best efforts to keep us away, we've managed to outsmart them [so far] and still look to be in Playa in...can it be?...10 days! I never knew airlines were so fond of calling people (and trying to talk their passengers out of flying!).

Anyway, I just wanted to add my thanks to everyone who has been providing updates on this board. It's been so helpful in keeping my sanity and perspective in check when everyone else was telling me to cancel. LOVE the beach reports and the foliage updates...priceless. Viva Playa!
