To All Veterans Everywhere
THANK YOU!
![]() IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow Between the crosses row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. |

Thank you to my father. He was in World War II in Guam, the Phillipines and Okinawa. He enlisted in the Army because in his part of Illinois the draftees were mostly going to the Navy, and my Dad couldn't swim and didn't like the water much. So, being the lucky guy that he was, he ended up in an Army amphibious unit and spent most of the war in small boats close to shore. Not a very safe place. He spent the end of his tour in Okinawa. He was awarded the Purple Heart, and other honors. He was honorably discharged as a Seargent.
Thank you to all Veterans, past and present. |
