Passing along this info from Fishermans website, only thing we didn't know already is the update on Dec. 5,also good to know about room service
Sunset Fishermen Spa & Resort has not been opened to the public yet since the Swimming pool, Snack and Spa construction works cause noise and disconfort, however a great deal of rooms are in good condition and the Main Restaurant, Lobby Bar and Room Service are in operating conditions . Next update will be published on December the 5thBEAT ME TO IT! DANG! |

Information I got in person last week
Hey all,
Well, the timeshare business at FV is up and running full throttle. That was just about all we saw when we stopped by on four different occasions Thanksgiving week. As a matter of fact, while shopping at Cedraui, we were approached for a timeshare presentation while looking for Nutella for my niece! Actually had 11 FV hits, 5 Mayan Palace, with a sprinkling of a few others. MP was offering $150 US, bottle of tequila and a bottle of Kaluha. Still not worth our time but for those of you that enjoy that type of thing.... Actually talked with Jose Luis and two different guests staying at Fishermens. Jose Luis - I asked why my reservations were canceled in March since it looks like a lot of progress was being made and that there were quests staying there. He said the government has gotten very strict. We have a contract that states we have the use of a pool, beach access, etc., and that is not available. So they can not meet their end of the contract until April 1. He said inspectors are coming in every week to two weeks to see progress and last week had released two rooms to be rented. I believe he said insurance inspectors but I am not sure if that is government or private. (Should have made notes while down there before having all the alcohol!) He also said they did not want anymore complaints lodged...I kind of took this to mean they did not want any negative reports given to Mexico's version of BBB. He said the guests staying there did not have reservations because all timeshare weeks have been canceled until April. The people there knew the condition before staying. I told him I would be willing to sign a waiver stating that I would accept less than what was in my contract and since I had seen with my own eyes, I knew what to expect. He said he would be going to a meeting in Cancun next week and would know more of what direction will be taken after the meeting. I am just keeping my fingers crossed. It looked like the only room ready in the two newer buildings was the show room. The lower floor rooms were being used for storage of chairs and other stuff that hadn't gotten destroyed. There was a huge pile of debris on the North side in the parking lot. I saw a maid working in one of the top floor rooms of the main building. I tried to communicate with a person behind the check in desk once to see when people were going to be able to check in but got the blank stare and then a reply in Spanish from the other clerk that basically meant they couldn't understand what I was asking. I also talked with two of the salesmen. The first asked why I would want to stay there without a pool when I told him my weeks had been canceled. I asked the second when timeshare owners would be allowed to come back and he said next week. I said that was very interesting because my March reservations were canceled. He quickly backtracked and said it was one the Cancun properties that would be open next week. This was before I was able to speak with Jose Luis. First FV guest I spoke with - I recognized the wrist band on a lady that was walking the beach just north of FV. She was from California and had come down two weeks prior for her son's wedding at the Blue Parrot. They stayed at BP for 2 weeks but were going to stay at FV for a week as a gift for them buying 8 weeks (YES - 8 WEEKS!). She said it happened very fast and her husband really likes the place. She wasn't sure but the staff had been really nice. Haven't we all kind of been there before! When we bought, it wasn't fast but it did happen with me going but I was saying no, how did this happen! She said it isn't called timeshare anymore, they were associates. I would think so with 8 weeks! Second couple I spoke with - Saturday morning I went down just to see what kind of check in/out activity was going on. I talked with a couple from Calgary that had come down to stay at one of the M Palaces (Moon, Mayan, M-something) to find out that they didn't have a place to stay. They went through the FV tour and bought or they already owned there and begged the to let them stay (again- no notes with too much to drink). The gentlemen told me there were only one of six staying there. If he meant people, the CA lady, husband, son and daughter-in-law were the other four. If he meant six rooms, then I talked with a third of them. The lady he was with said the did not and had not had hot water. The staff was very apologetic and at least they had a place to stay. I explained my situation in March and he was in the 'oh dear mode' which reinforces my recollection of them being new owners. He said he watched this forum so hopefully he will add to this. I was able to use the owner discount for one of the tours so at least I was able to use a benefit even though we were not staying there. My husband is still a little leery especially since it took us going down 4 times before we were able to talk with Jose Luis. He was in a meeting for over an hour the first day so we left after being told he would be there the rest of the week, came back on Wednesday which was his day off, Thursday he had just left for Cancun, then finally got to talk to him on Saturday. I think I feel better. I can understand that they can not at this time live up to the contract but I wish more communication would have come sooner. Good luck to all who are rescheduling. Debi |

Thanks for the update Silver Streak. Like you I wouldnt care about the pool or beach. We rarely stay around our hotels when we are in Mex. To many other things to do.
We are all set now for our new dates in May. Found an unbelivable price (under 300 RT) for airfare out of Chicago. They were even non-stop flts at good times, so I grabbed them before they were gone (next day the non-stop was gone). Now even if FV decided to open sooner we'd have to wait for May. I am a bit put out by FV though that they did not initiate contact with us to cancel our reservation, we had to contact them. I've had numerous times in the past that they have not responded to my emails, I think they lack in the customer service area. What if we had just shown up in Mar as planned? I wonder if this has or will happen to anyone, will be interesting to see future posts. |

The beach isn't a straight shot any more. I walked from FV to the pier in the past but you can't do that now. There are pockets of beaches. Example: small beach just south of Xaman Ha condos but water is up to where villas start. Walk up to street, down to next east west street and you can access beach just about all the way to FV. Well, you can see FV but not walk to it. Going south past FV, walk down road and go to beach where the road ends. I think that is the Reef Club but not sure. Tides change so it will probably be different depending on the time of year you go down. |

I have my reservations still booked for March 25- April 1.....I am too afraid to contact FV to hear the bad news. Is there any update as to when they might be re-opening, or how the construction is making out?

They are still open (perhaps only on a restricted basis). We stopped in for a drink the other night (they were charging 50 pesos for a beer, and so we did not stay for long). There is no pool yet. Perhaps that would be the question I would ask. When will the pool be finished?

We stayed at Fishermens a few weeks ago, first part of december. Other than the damaged pool we enjoyed our stay again. ALL the staff was as friendly and helpful as ever. You couldn't use the beach in front of FV but we were there to check on our house construction anyways.
They seem very motivated to get the place back better than before. We noticed a lot of the suites were taking advantage of the situation and upgrading their facilities with new flooring, fixtures and so on. The place looked good to me. |
