I love the new job but the commute is horendous. West Seattle where I work is charming with great little apartments, cafes and coffee shops.

Tough call. You like doing manly man outdoor stuff. You aren't listening to neighbors in the next yard while you grill. Hard to get used to after years of not having to. I moved into this house 18 years ago from a little farm house with a barn on a small half acre lot. No heat except a wood stove. A couple apples trees and a blackberry patch that was the bane of my existence. The house was drafty and way out of plumb. Working on it was a creative nightmare. (Old rough cut lumber does NOT line up with current lumber standards.)
This house is newer and easy to maintain. It seriously lacks character. I don't have to chop 5 cords of wood every fall. In fact I don't have to chop any wood. When I am in my backyard, I am literally talking distance to a neighbor anywhere in the yard I am at. (I HATE that part.) I would love to have what you have. But I don't miss all that work. West Seattle would be real nice. Just a bit more crowded than you are accustomed.
