So at the end of the day, why not just pass a bill that makes it permanent and be done with it? This thing is going to keep being extended and will become such a political hot potato, that it will never be repealed.
The only reason that a year long bill was not passed was because the Republicans wanted to add a bunch of non-related items to the bill. This is something both parties are known to do.
They got the pipeline, declared victory, passed the two-month extension and then the House Republicans seemed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
That is the way it seems to be playing out at this stage of the game.
