We also frequent playa and I was just replying from what >I< know and >my< opinion which sometimes here having a opinion can cause some conflicts but that being said we are not in china!!!
As for what I stated before we always bring u.s. bills for tipping at the big resorts the locals prefer it to canadian funds and also easier for you than pesos being your first time here, if you can get pesos in bc good on you.
We have had double charges on our m/c show up so we do not use it here anymore ,, not likely to happen but can, I imagine you are not gonna spend more than 500 dollars shopping so as i said before the exchange booths on fifth well give you around 13.5 pesos to one dollar so its not gonna break the bank.
As for the atm at airport it is fine to use this but I also know you said it is your first time here and the airport can be overwhelming the first trip with the timeshare guys etc, and I also know that when we go on a charter to a AI we hate waiting at the bus for someone else that got caught up by the timesharks or is lost in airport looking for atm or being bugged at atm etc etc. as for secure atm read this post

when in airport if you decide to use a atm, use a atm not the money exchange kiosk as their exchange rate is terrible as with anything else in the airport food etc you well get screwed!
Also feel free to ask some do not realize that since its your first time you have questions and that is what this forum is for, the search function works too but Most of us do not mind your questions and are glad to help.
