Help on choosing resort in Playa Del Carmen

Hi,

I'm fairly new to the board and was hoping I could get all of your expert advise on a place to stay in Playa Del Carmen. My son is 24 yrs old and is looking for a lively, fun party place, all inclusive with people who are in the age group of 20 - 30 yrs of age.

Would like and appreciate any of your suggestions. He will probably be going in or around Feb. 2006

Thankyou in advance!

P.S. He will likely want to have easy access to the bars, etc. in Playa del Carmen.

hi,

we stayed at the royal porto real this year, which is 1 block off 5th avenue. it has a sister resort, the gran porto real, which is next door and less expensive.we used the amenities at both resorts and loved it. there were many twenty-something young people there. it is walking distance to the clubs,ect.. it laso has a great people watching beach!

perhaps someone will comment on the RIU and Iberostars in the playa del carmen/playacar area in response to your question.

good luck..

Take a look at the Riu Tequila...lots of fun...great bars....smaller resort but very nice...people from the other Riu's just across the road come over in the evening to hang out and party.....lots of fun...noticed alot of people in the age group you are looking for the last two time we were there...

Consider Royal Porto Real

I went to Royal Porto Real in June of 2005 and I loved it. I am 23 and went with three of my cousins about the same age and two adults. We had a great time, the hotel was awesome, the employees really nice, the location of the hotel in the middle of the hotel zone in Playa was a plus. All of the food was awesome and the all inclusive was well worth it. When we were there they offered a trip at night to take you to the clubs in Cancun and bring you back. If you are going to go all inclusive it is really nice and the grounds are not a big as some of the other all inclusive hotels. It is a new hotel and very nice. If you go have a miami vice for me or have a couple of them.

Just got back from the Riu Tequila on Saturday. Lots of under 30 crowd.plus can use the 2 other Riu's across the street.

Thankyou all, for your suggestions. Our tour operator does provide both the Riu Tequila and the Royal Porto Real. They are a bit pricey out of Vancouver, Canada. Does anyone have another alternative, something more around a 4 star? These 2 resorts are showing as a 5 star.

Muchas Gracias!

The Riu Tequila is about as inexpensive as it gets when talking all inclusive, I don't think I know of another decent AI that is less expensive actually. It also shouldn't be rated 5 star, it's a 4 star property. It is less than other resorts because it's not ON the beach, but across the street from the beach. The Royal Porto Real should be much more expensive than the Tequila, and you really can't compare the two properties as one is budget friendly (Tequila) and one is more upscale (Royal Porto).

If you're getting similar prices for the two, then there's a mistake there somehow.

Maybe your tour operator is quoting you the non AI price for the Royal Porto Real??

On the Riu website they have the Tequila for $105 pppn for January.

That's what I was thinking, but the Royal Porto is going AI only, I heard as of Jan 1st, 2006...so not sure how that can be (unless they changed the date they plan to go AI only).

I don't know if this will help or not but I'll pass it on anyway. I just got an email from Funjet.com for a promotion they're running right now. 7 day all-inclusive trip for $1062.65 USD each double occupacy at the Riu Tequilla. The price I was quoated was out of Detroit Airport, but I have to believe they have simmilar deals at other airports. Good luck and have fun.
