Goodbye Dave
We were going to add this forum later, but it is appropriate to go ahead with this now. Sorry to kick it off on a somber note, but it's important and if we can use the forum for some good, then we are all for it.
Our friend Dave Gowman is very sick. Dave has lived in Playa for about 5 years now. It's a nice place to hang out in between treatments for his CF. We want Dave to be able to hang out some more. I'll post some more about Dave tomorrow when I feel up to it a little more. I just got a phone call from DJ down at La Ranita. DJ has taken emergency leave from work to stay down here to help out. They have raised 22,000 pesos today already. If you would like to help, you can do so by the following button. We promise to get 100% of it to Dave. Thanks. Like I mentioned, we will post more on this tomorrow. Learn about CF here.

Our very good friend Dave left us this morning at 7:27 local time.
Thanks to everyone that helped us out in thoughts, prayers and donations. We all feel a little bit shattered today.

James, I am so sorry for your loss. I thought about Dave a lot last night and this morning, and said many, many prayers for him since the time you posted the first message. I feel certain that he was well taken care of and is now in very good hands.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you grieve the loss of your friend. You have my deepest sympathies. Becky |

Thoughts about our friend Dave
We lucky ones who were fortunate enough to spend so many good times with Dave are brokenhearted that we've lost our friend. Still, I know that his remarkable spirit remains with everyone who knew and cared about him. I also like to imagine that he's embarked on a new expedition ... the best one yet, I hope, where he'll have no physical limitations and nothing but amazing and fascinating adventures.
I find Henry Van Dyke's "Parable of Immortality" a comforting way to think of that final journey: "I am standing upon the seashore. A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch until at last she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says, “There she goes!” Gone where? Gone from my sight ... that is all. She is just as large in mast and hull and spar as she was when she left my side and just as able to bear her load of living freight to the place of destination. Her diminished size is in me, not in her. And just at the moment when someone at my side says, “There she goes!” there are other eyes watching her coming and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, “Here she comes!” I bet there were lots of glad shouts for Dave. And I, for one, like to think about him waiting to greet me someday. Love to all .... ps |

Sorry to hear about Dave. From the tributes I've read above and from the pictures, looks as though he was a very interesting and fun guy to know. It friends like that that are the toughest to replace. My condolences to you, Anna, all his friends and family; the fortunate ones who got to know him at all.
