Help with Cheap AI and on the Beach
I am looking for advice and suggestions on our next Playa resort. We went to the El Dorada Royale for our honeymoon and loved the area and new we want to go back as much as possible. But this time around we are deciding to not go overboard like we did with the Casita for 10days and wanted to go as cheap as possible. But we are still interested in some amenities. Some things that are of interest to us would be the beach. My wife prefers the quiet chair on the beach rather than the pounding music and noise of 30 people in the pool. I also like to cool off in the ocean and snorkel around but we do both enjoy the pools at other times. We also are interested in good food I do not think we will get quite the same dining experience we had at the 6 different alacarte restaurants at the El Dorado and we are not against buffets. Buffets would work out great if the food is good and I guess the occasional alacate meal would be nice also this way if we are not spending as much we would not mind go in to town for some meals. That brings me to another option that we would like but are not completely set on is location. The EDR was far from town and a bit of a pain to get to compared to what I believe would be numerous others with in walking distance or short cab rides. I would assume damage from this last season would also be another concern but we are planning for the end of Jan or early Feb so I wonder if most places would be in some working condition by then? TIA

Don't they move most AI stuff into this forum? I did not say AI before but now I have put it in the title. Do you still think I should move this to general?

In my experience, the food is what suffers the most at the lower-priced AIs, but we tend to be picky eaters (and not wild about buffets anyway). Most everywhere can do a decent breakfast, but after a few dinners, you may find yourself eating in town in the evenings.

I would suggest looking at the Iberostar and RIU properties in Playacar. They get generally good reviews for their food and service, plus the beach in Playacar is great. They are also close enough that you can grab a $4 taxi into town and enjoy the great food and drink there. And you WILL want to do that!

Thanks everyone I have quotes coming from 3 different places and will look at prices of all the recommended resorts and see where they all stand after seeing some numbers. Hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised on how cheap some may be.Thanks for your help.
