Just came back, after resisting for most of the day. There is a ton of trash in the street, and the floor of the store already looks like San Francisco. Hope this is just because of the heavy traffic today.

I took some photos today, but I'm having upload issues right now (most likely operator error from recent vacation-scrambled brains). I'll post them tomorrow after I talk with the Big Giant Head.

They have fresh milk, they have the eggs in the cooler where they belong, they have several different choices of coffee makers and blenders, they have a deli counter, produce section, fish section, and meat section. THEY HAVE AN ENTIRE AISLE JUST FOR MAKEUP.

In short, I'm in love. This is one of the happiest days of my life. I hope it lasts.

Oh, and are there any reports on the traffic and parking situations?
We picked up a flyer today hours 7am to midnight. It may be weeks before the lines are short enough for me. Plenty of parking under store.

Wow, the lines were crazy! The deli, bakery, and fish sections are great!! I didn't buy anything since the lines went half way back through the store. Guess everyone knows they better buy it while it's there! Oh, and at the front they have a separate 12 pesos section...kinda like a $1 store. Funny!

Does the deli have more than 20 different varieties of ham? That's one thing we always have trouble finding - something for sandwiches besides ham!

I noticed this evening when heading out of the hotel that the beach side of the oval atop the DIIME sign at the end of 8th street (these are the same type of signs that are posted along 5th Ave, with maps and some advertisements and ovals at the top and some kind of animal, like the dolphin on the sign near us), which had been untaken since the sign went up some months ago, now has a Wal-Mart logotype in it. So they may not have been able to build on the beach, but they're gettin' their logo out there!

As if they're really going to need that bit of marketing...

But the really important question, for those of you who ventured in today, is (drum roll) do they have beach chair cushions?!?

I saw, maybe, two groups of tourists. Everyone else (the place was packed) were Mexicans and expats like me. Lots of mom and pop store owners were stocking up on multiple cartloads of diapers and other goods that you can buy in greater variety and less costly than from wholesalers.
Hey, since they had okra, did you notice as well whether they had turnip greens and/or collard greens? They are very healthy to eat.

Please, Please let them have beach chair cushions...the ones you bought last January are probably starting to wear out after a busy season, a couple hurricanes etc.

I hope not because it is too dry and tough. You must be a dentist or something. I hope that they carry Jack Link's Jerky - much better.

Wow I checked that out tonight, what a zoo. I swear 10% of Playa was in the store. Somehow being a huge store it felt claustrophic with all the people.

Regardless though there is a crazy selection in there, I'm very happy to have that here. A lot of local store owners are going to feel the impact I think but maybe its like James said and a lot of small store owners can get better prices than wholesale so for them it will be a benefit.
