The Yule Mule Train is Booked!
Okay!
On December 26th, we will meet at Playa Maya around 10:30/11 ish and hang out whatever part of the day you care to. Peeps will, if they want to, mule down some goodies or essentials for the locals. Some of the locals will meet us there! The beach at Playa Maya is now wider and prettier, and the bar and food always get great reviews. So come when you can and hang out. More toward evening, we will meet for Mule Train Round Two at the Beer Bucket. Let's say 6 pm. Shopping list, with suggestions gleaned from other threads: (I will edit to add/modify as necessary; I know there are locals we haven't heard from) Susie in Q Roo Good movies on VHS if anyone wants to dump some of their old ones on me. Paperbacks (Not romance novels or ones that feature fighter jets or missiles... or most non-fiction) Caffeine-free Diet Soda Simply Fruit Jams "Just Whites" Egg whites, powdered Natural Peanut Butter Sweet potatoes (not canned in syrup) If you're brave enough to bring frozen stuff, French-style green beans... Also, if anyone is in CMH, lots of stuff there needs picked up James Siropwaffelen Porter and stout beers This book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/031...lance&n=283155) Mighty Boog t-shirt, size L (http://merchandise.chocodog.com/choc.../garments.html) Anna Salty licorice Chocolate Sarahb Real maple syrup Good chocolate chips Pickle relish Regular white marshmallows Pudding Canned pumpkin Powdered (confectioner’s/icing) sugar Regular Rice Krispies PlayadelSoul Books and magazines for our school library. English for the books. Magazines can be in any language. Magazines with good photos or ads are best, as we use the visuals to spur conversation. We have students from all levels, including kids. Generic allergy relief meds that come 100 to 500 per in K.Mart, WalMart or Target. Rohausser Campbell’s Tomato Soup Big bags M&Ms Heather Chocolate Crunchy, shaped taco shells Books and magazines in English Cool Ranch Doritos Diet Dr. Pepper Heather's friends Clothing People of Playa Clothing, all sizes See JAH's post #24 on page 2 $$$ (Put a few items -- for both locals and mules -- up for raffle to raise some money. From susieinqroo: maybe the mules could donate their purchases and the mule...eees? could bid on them to raise money for whatever cause they were talking about raising money for. From bigdave: raffle sounds like a great idea ... have several items to raffle. increase the amount of items won and maybe that would increase the amount we could raise for charity. a money prize (from 50/50 cash raffle)would probably be donated to the fund by who ever won it. at least i would or i would purchase as much as possible and donate it back.. what ever would work out the best. Yee-haw-ho-ho! Last edited by MWC : 12-10-2005 at 02:49 PM. |

I took the liberty of updating my wishlist. Funyuns have been covered. Just got a bag yesterday and if I keep it up, I'll be wearing XL's again.

Every year for Christmas we ask our children and grandchildren to give money/stuff to a charity in lieu of gifts to us. Some years they have donated to a midwife/early childhood group in Guatemala or sent clothing to an orphanage in Guatelmala City. This year we have asked them to put together some things for us to add to things we are taking to the needy children of Holbox in January. It would work for anywhere in the Yucatan that has been hit by a hurricane this year. I have given them the following guidelines/recommendations:
I would like to put together clothes and small toys for 6 children – 3 boys and 3 girls from toddler through age 10 or so. If you each supply things for one child, I will take care of the other 3. What I have bought: 6 fleece throws for lining children’s hammocks during the winter months 6 Hot Wheels cars for three boys 3 boxes of colored pencils for three girls Clothes for a 4 year old girl: Velour running/track suit Matching short sleeved embellished t-shirt 3 pairs of socks 6 underpants 1 necklace Recommendations: Buy a complete outfit for one child. If it’s for a school-age boy, make it dark pants and a white shirt (one long-sleeved and one short-sleeved), so they can use it as a school uniform. Also a Pacers or Colts t-shirt would be welcome. The school-age girls wear plaid skirts, so we can’t duplicate that; but they LOVE jeans and t-shirts for after school. Include underwear and socks. Girls of all ages love jewelry, including pierced earrings and hair scrunchies and barrettes. Little ones also like stickers of all kinds and stuffed animals - Pooh themed ones are particularly popular. Please keep them small so they don’t take up a lot of luggage space. Boys need baseballs. That way they don’t have to use coke bottles and rocks. Baseball is much more popular in the Yucatan than soccer. They also like baseball hats and yo-yos. School supplies are always welcome – pencils, pens, colored pencils, crayons, washable markers, erasers, small pencil sharpeners, coloring books, etc. Some personal items are appropriate, but we don’t have space for large quantities. A toothbrush and some toothpaste for each child would be good, and perhaps a bar of soap and small bottle of shampoo. |

'cmon, Susie. The wipe here is plenty good. Charmin? Member's Mark? Cottonelle? You could always buy a big roll of aterciopelado at Asis fabrics!
