Barcelo Maya and Eldorado Royale

Has anyone been to these resorts since Wilma? How are the beaches? Does any of these two resorts have those "sand bags" in the water. I'm getting married on the beach and might go with either of these two resorts. I just didn't want the wedding pictures to have me and my husband and those "sand bags" in it.
If anyone has any recent pictures of the beaches from these resorts, I'd love to see them.
Thanks,
Kristine

Yes, the El Dorado Royale has sand bags, but I don't think you will be able to see them in you wedding pics...although I've never been, so I'm not possitive. I did however plan a wedding there, did months of research, and then had to re-locate due to Hurricance Wilma.

Good Luck!

Hi...
Barcelo does not have the "sand bags", or the beached whales as they are lovingly known. Visit the Unofficial Barcelo website for dozens of great beach shots, and a whole wedding section which includes more great photos. The beach at Barcelo is still beautiful. Hope this will help you in your decision. G-mom

How long ago were you a the Barcelo Maya? How far is the resort from Playa del Carmen? Is there any bars/restaurants/clubs close to Barcelo Maya. Does the Barcelo have a club? Do they play good music?

The Barcelo is about 20 minutes south of Playa, a $16 USD cab ride. There really is nothing down that way as far as bars/restaurants/clubs - other than in Puerto Aventuras - but they don't have any "clubs", just a few small restaurants and a bar or two. If you want off property hopping nightlife, you have to go into Playa. They do however have a disco (yes they play good music) and two theaters at the Barcelo. Have you been to the Unofficial Barcelo site yet? There is so much information specifically about this resort there, I bet most of your questions would be answered.

Our daughter was married at the Barcelo in June. They have one of the nicest beaches (an entire bay). The wedding was exactly what she wanted in every way!! The beach, the resort, no frayed nerves!! The only way to have a wedding!! Everyone is on holidays!!! Wedding coordinator is fantastic (Carolina).
