A tough pill to swallow
How are you at taking a pill??
Every morning I take an allergy pill, a multivitamin, two calcium, a Vitamin C, a selenium tablet, and two glucosamine/condroitin (sp?) tablets, and all I need is a swig of my SlimFast and they're down. On the other hand, David requires a LOT of water, complete concentration, and can't have me watching him (cuz I tend to laugh at him) when he attempts to swallow one teeny weeny Tylenol. ![]() Last edited by Nerak936 : 12-10-2005 at 08:48 PM. |

I take several pills in the mornign and normally all at once with water LOL. Hubby dry swallows his pills 1 at a time and he makes a nasty gagging sound before he takes a drink of water. I gag when he does it
so I can't be around to watch or hear him do it LOL. Never seen anyone take pills like that before and I am still not used to it!!Quote:

Can't do it
I mean I CAN.....but when I actually swallow the pill and the gallon of water, it only takes a few minutes for the stomach cramps to start and then pretty soon, up it comes. (TMI, I know!) Do I need to see a shrink or what !?! So I just get liquid and/or chewable medicine or I crush the pills and take them with apple sauce. So David is doing OK, I'd say!

Ewwww! LOL, I hear you though. I have that problem when I try to take any kind of liquid medicine, like gaviscon or maalox
I can't take either any more cause my tastebuds scream out and my stomach rejects it in sympathy for them LOLQuote:

I can swallow pills like a champ! BUT (here's my big but
) I can't swallow them with water. Has to be juice or soda or kool-aid or something with flavor. I can't stand to taste the pill itself. Right now all I'm taking in pill form are pre-natal vitamins and iron supplements, and they're supposed to be taken with orange juice to help facilitate the iron absorption, so it's win-win for me on that count. Usually with other meds and vitamins, I'll use the non-water liquid to get the pill down and then follow that with a bottle of water chaser. ![]() |

I take a handful of vitamins and stuff (10 pills?) in the mornings with a swallow of water or whatever else is on hand. Another swig to wash it all down and I'm good. My mom, however, has to cut up the smallest of pills into tiny pieces or crush them into applesauce. She is always appalled when she sees me taking mine all at once.

Susie, I can do that as well. I just collect up the vitamins etc and down them in one swallow. One of my vitamins is huge too! Hubby is amazed I don't choke LOL.

Boy do I have memories of my folks trying to get my brother to swallow pills...couldn't quite seem to get it down..
I take 800 mg ibuprofen tabs without water...the size of horsepills. I generally DO follow that up with a little bit of milk as the directions say... |

Funny!I take about 9 pills every morning for my RA and other health issues (and I'm about to start on some vitamins too!) and I throw them all in my mouth at once, a swig of water, and their down. My son will swallow tylenol now...not Kelsey. She tries, but gags and pukes! I don't know if she will EVER be able to. |

It's hard for some kids. My son is 14 and he's only been able to get whole meds down for about 2 years now. Luckily they had chewables. And every time he got amoxicillan it was the pink bubble gum goop in the bottle. Some of the Junior versions (I'm pretty sure it's Jr Advil) are really tiny little smooth pills. Those were the first things he was able to swallow--they weren't big or chalky, so they didn't get stuck. At some point they just figure out where the magic place is on the back of their tongue to set the pill so that the liquid will send it down the chute and not to the gag-spot on the back of the throat. ![]() |

I used to be able to swallow several pills at once years ago but now I have to concentrate on one at a time. I don't gag, I choke...and it ain't funny. Round tablets are the hardest, I prefer capsules or oblong shaped pills. But....I can chew an aspirin with no problem....I actually like the taste of aspirin.
