Explosions in London
Just wondering what's going on. I know that a fuel deposit has exploded and is on fire but news are still very few as it just happened two hours ago. Sounds pretty bad... when you guys in the US wake up it is probably already clearer what's happened.

Well- from what I heard it is a fuel storage called "Buncefield" near Hampstead (Hemel-Hampstead).
Rumor has it the fire is out of control and that windows in neighborhoods around the area burst when the first explosion happened. There are also deaths rumored but not confirmed. I read police are treating it as an accident so far. Guess we'll have to wait and see. And I'm wondering how far from the actual Hampstead this location is- have a friend who lives in Hampstead and ironically it is one of the most expensive areas in London. So all the celebs there might have had a bad night.....hehehe. |

Reports of panic-buying of petrol have started to appear. People do this because they fear shortages, but those responsible for fuel supply have said that more often it's panic-buying itself that causes shortages.
My friends form SE London have been moaning that one of the few sunny days they have had this Winter has been blighted by the cloud of smoke. Please don't berate them if you've never lived in London! Last edited by Daddy B; 12-11-2005 at 07:18 PM. |

Three explosions in the depot have gone of, they can’t say how at this moment
Because they can’t go in and put it out, this is because they need a tremendous amount of foam and are waiting for that also hoping the fuel to burn it’s self down Some what, there was a mantence crew in at the weekend which is the thought Of the accident, no one has been killed but there are some 45 people injured. The force of the explosions could be heard some 50miles away with immediate Homes’ suffering some damaged, there has been also local businesses damaged. The oil refinery is one of the largest in Briton. We hope the fire brigade can start To tackle this quickly because of the fumes and smoke pollution to a very large Area. I hope this is of some help.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Craig |

I live quite near there, but it's only an accident and now nobody is panic buying fuel at all. But, when the tanks exploded, they were heard miles away - one report said that some places in Holland heard it!!!
they are planning to put the fires out today with foam so should all be cleared up soon. |
