Taxi from airport - really, last question about this
Here's where I get a little confused about transportation from the Cancun airport to Playa: looking at the various information pages, you get the impression that the only taxis available are the collectivos (rules restricting private taxis at airports, etc), and that otherwise you either take the Riviera bus or reserve a private and expensive van. But now I've just read a thread about taking a taxi from the airport. We're three, and so the vans seem extravagant, and after a long flight we might not want to wait for the bus or for a collectivo to fully load.
So my question: Is it possible or not to walk out of the airport and grab a taxi, just for the three of us? |

Hi! Yes, taxis are everywhere. You'll be approached by a taxi driver as soon as you walk out of the airport. I believe it's about $60, but I could be a little wrong. You might be confused about the taxis b/c they are (government?) regulated at the airport so only one service is allowed to take passengers out.

If you look at the link I posted (to the arriving page on this site, under the read more tab), you'll learn all there is to know.
short answer: colectivos are not taxis. only airport authorized taxis can remove passengers from the airport. any taxi can deposit passengers at the airport. and we'll have to disagree that a private van that can carry up to 10 people, without waiting, direct to their hotel, for less than the cost of a colectivo or bus w/taxi to hotel from terminal, is expensive. for three people, as in your party, the cost of a private service is more than taking the bus if you do not include the value of your time, so there is certainly a break point that varies with group size and perceived value of time and convenience.

I'm arriving the 28th.
Of December. This year. Should I have any trouble getting some kind of transport to Playa? Will someone pick me up? Please. There's only two of us and we aren't real big. Thank you. |
