Rhodos are "understory" shrubs....meaning they prefer to grow in filtered sunlight under the cover of something else, such as a big 'ol tree. If they can't be under something, the like a north exposure. What they do NOT like is full sun! Over time, they will shrivel up and wilt away if placed in full sun, and considering your in Texas...I can't even imagine you being able to grow rhodies there unless they are in complete shade and have access to plenty of water! And even then, I dunno.
I had two that I had specially ordered because I wanted burgundy, not the common purple/pink you usually find here. I planted them in an east exposure, just getting morning sun and they did OK in spring, fall and winter...but come summer, those poor babies were a mess! The next spring, I moved them to the north side of the house and there they live, happily ever after!
I'm going to get some pics of my gardens tomorrow, as long as it doesn't rain again. Wish I could show you my rhodies but they're done flowering. I *might* have an old pics I can scan of them though, I'll look.
