Congratulations, Tony! That's wonderful news...can imagine how happy you must be :-)

(Wanted to get a new job also because I moved to another city. Couldn't find one [I'm too expensive ] for half a year so I started my own business. I like being my own boss but if I had the choice...dunno... )

Thanks everyone, for your heartwarming replies.

They made me feel better when I was down, and they made me feel even better now that I'm up!

This really is great news. Very happy for you, TZ. It sucks to be out of work for a long time. Congrats and here's to keeping your mind active!

Good news Tony!

Prepress is where a lot of young «designer wannabes» want to work. And some of them gladly stay at work 24/7 without being paid for overtime. They live with the job.

Glad you got the job! A company that prefers experience must be a good one.

So I guess you are practicing the pen tool?

Major turnaround...
Out of business before actually in.

I've sorta worked there for 5 days to get the hang of things, and to get to know eachother. No pay, but that was fine as long as it would get me the job.
The 5th day the manager did offerme the job, and we agreed on the salary and a couple of other things. He would send me a draft of the contract for approval.
More than a week went by so two days ago I asked my new employer-to-be when he would finally send me a draft of the contract. I just figured he must have been busy or something.

Here's a translation from an e-mail I received yesterday:
Quote:
Dear Tony,

I'm sorry to have to inform you that I will not offer you a contract.
A letter with my motivation is on it's way.
It was a difficult decision, but I am convinced that it's best for both parties.

Regards... (yada, yada)

I have been WooHoo-ing for more than a week and told the world about it.
I was really looking forward to start there on Jan. 2
I was about to buy myself a laptop for Christmas.

I haven't received his letter yet. I tried to call him today but he wasn't there. The guy whose job I was supposed to fill in 'cause he was going somewhere else only knew that the manager hired someone else.

I feel numb, tired and empty.
Some of you may have noticed that I've been posting here and there 'till now, but that was more like an attempt to get my mind off of things a little.

Obviously my christmas is already pretty much ruined.

No need to feel sorry. Consider it a FYI.
I guess I've been naive. Just needed to vent.

Need or not, I AM very sorry, TZ!!! What a disappointment. And beyond that, there just isn't a whole lot else to say, is there? Christmas is about the people you love, though, and you still have them in your lives. When it's all said and done, that's all that matters. I wish you the best and please, please hang in there!

True.
I'm somewhere in between angry and disappointed.

I'm surprised they could do such a thing to you; a verbal contract should be as good as a written one.

I'm sure it's not the end of the world - although it may seem so for now - and someone like you will eventually bounce back.

All the best.

I also thought that a verbal contract would be as good as a written one.
Final words have not yet been spoken, although I doubt that they will help.
I try to look forward.

Thumbs up

I guess that employer wasn't worth you. I don't think that was a nice way to treat people. He could have talked to you. And yes: A verbal contract should be as good as a written one. At least it is the law in Norway. I don't know about Holland. But if the boss isn't fair... would you really want to work there?

And now: Don't give up. There will be another job for you.

In the US most states are "right to work states" which means you can leave any time no notice or they can ask you to leave at any time for and no reason. This is not typical but is legal.
