Strong smell at Iberostar Paraiso Maya

I will be at the Paraiso Maya on Jan 22 this year.. this is the first trip ever that my wife and I will be doing with out the kids in 17 years... I have heard from several reports around the web that the jungle area's smell of rotting vegetation and that you could smell this from the beach and on the balcony of the rooms. Has anyone heard of this and can I expect everything to be dried up by January... Just want a nice trip for the wife and I!!!

By the way, I have been reading this forum for a couple of months and it is the best one around!!! Thanks for all the good info!

Paul

You must be referring to the latest Trip Advisor report. I find it odd that the lowest rating that reviewer gave anything was a 3 (And that was for the "Activities and Gym", so unless you plan on workingn out a lot, don't worry about it), with several 5's included, but the overall score was only a 2???? You have to take Trip Advisor reviews with several grains of salt ... Look for the concensus, rather than the one of. Some people are extremely difficult to please.

You have to remember that you are in fact going to an area of the world that is built in and around the jungle. So, yes you are going to smell jungle related smells at times and places.

I also think something is just not right with the last few reviews on Trip Advisor. They seem to contradict everything else I've heard. The one "complainer" was saying they were donwgraded from the Del Mar to the Beach. That is NOT a downgrade. The general consensus is that everything is OK. I am going there Dec. 24th and have no concerns. I'll give an honest report when I return.

I'll be there on Sunday, 12/18 I don't expect the smell to be bad, at least I hope not, but I'll let you know when I return home.

No matter what resort/hotel, no matter how nice, one star or fifty star, you will always find someone who complains about it. Like the old saying goes, you can't please everyone. If the majority of reviews are positive, then I think you are looking at a very good property.

I have been to the IB Del Mar, Lindo, and Maya and can tell you for a fact that what has been said about the occasional odor is true, especially at the Del Mar. That being said you can also see that I have returned three times in three years. Opt for an upper floor and you will be fine plus the view is nicer too. The only reason I switched my next booking to the Grand Palladium Riviera was due to pricing / value. Say "Hi" to Rigo at the Maya lobby bar he will take good care of you!

Enjoy your trip
