Shangri-la
I'm a little bit nervous about my trip to pdc in April 06. I have reservations at Shangri-la and I was wondering exactly how much damage they took from Wilma. I know they are rebuilding and rooms will be nice and new. My concern is the greenery, is there any left? All the palm trees and folage was what attracted me to pick this resort. Are there any palm trees left???

And as far as the flora goes, I'm betting that by the time you will be there you wouldn't even know that some friggin' Wilma came along six months before!

I walked by there last week on the beach. There was still some construction on buildings but it looked pretty good. There were even some rooms right on the beach # 33, 34 &35 that were fine. I didn't look too closely at the other numbers. The beach looked great also.

I did take some pictures but they're print and I don't have a scanner. The one shot I have of the beach right next to Shangri La to the north seemed much wider than when we were there in July. I can't speak to the foliage situation since I wasn't really looking at that part. I wish I had walked as far as Zubul but my feet were killing me from walking so much. There seemed to be a big white tent up there.

Shangri-La Caribe
We are heading down to the Shangri-La Caribe the second week of Feb. and are wondering how the repairs are coming along. We saw some pictures that were posted in Nov. but have not seen or heard very much since then.

The place does look great, the included dinners bothered me a bit as they dont have a plan without dinners at a lower price. Playa has too many great restaurants to enjoy.
The people I met from Dryden and I made a coonection as their store is called Sounds north and my store is called sound west. Ha, we are in BC and you folks are really northern... We are coming to the Shangri la from a different angle than you, last year we stayed in very small hotels and we wanted something a bit more social so we moved up to the Shangri la size. Two years ago we were at the Bahai principe and that was nice but we enjoy the small hotels more. The other attraction is the location...the north end has such a gorgeous beach. Hope you are excited as we are. We will be staying in Tulum first for 5 days then shangri la for 9.....and its onlyabout 35 days till we go....

We Were At Shangrilah Nov26-dec 2
SOME OF THE FIRST VISITORS after they opened. They had only 22 guests while we were there. Service was phenomenal, the greenery had been hit very hard - but the palm trees were coming back and the staff was very busy getting things up and running.
Shangrilah - it is our favorite place to stay and the dinners don't bother us as the food and services is always great - when we want to eat in playa - we do that for lunch - saves some bucks along the way too. |
