Bikini Models Under Glass

Only in New York kids. . . .

Last Thursday at lunchtime it was 27°F and felt like 21°F with wind chill. There were very fine snow flurries in the air.

I plotted a route to the nearest deli and planned my dash there to avoid frostbite. Rounding the corner at 49th & Park I was leaning into the turn like an Olympic sprinter.

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear?

A glass sided truck with bikini models dancing inside! There were 3 ladies (oh, and one guy with washboard abs and surfer shorts). They started throwing a beach ball around. Then they pretended to rub suntan lotion on each other and give each other massages.

Mexico Tourism and Cancun sponsored this living, dancing billboard to encourage all the frozen New Yorkers to visit. Many folks with blue noses and no coats had obviouly been standing there for some time - hypnotized.

A friend snapped this photo. It doesn't capture all the detail, but you get the idea.

I go by that spot often. I'm sure I've seen the same guys standing vigil every day, pining for their return. . . .

Woops. . . .NOT only in New York.

The Mexico Tourism Promobus hit 18 cities in US & Canada during November & December. All are now finished.
