I'm trying to study my old textbooks in preparation for our trip later this summer to Playa Del Carmen. I took a few Spanish and Italian classes when I was in college about twenty years ago. I remember more Spanish than Italian but Italian words seem to crop up when I'm trying to remember Spanish vocabulary. It seems that a lot of people overseas are able to speak more than one language so I hope that they can understand me. When we were in Cancun a taxi driver corrected me that if you ask some one to speak slower that you would use mas despacio not lentemente. Another correction that I got was to use senora not mujer to refer to a woman in the third person. I try to remember but I know I make a lot of mistakes. People have been very nice on vacation and have tried to speak Spanish with me when we went to Mexico in the past. I'm actually looking forward to using my (somewhat limited) language skills.
