Advice for a PDC Virgin. . .

Well, it's not long now - 10 days and counting until we leave for PDC. We're staying at Secrets Capri and although I hear the food is great, I know we're going to be venturing into town to find the best restaurants. Can you tell me your favorite restaurants for lunch and dinner? We usually lean towards upscale places, plus we're traveling with our best friends - the wife is pregnant, so we don't want to take any chances with sketchy eateries. Your thoughts?

Please include any great things not to miss in town - bars with live music, great shops with local artisan wares, etc, etc. . .

Thanks in advance for your help and have a great New Year!

May I introduce you to the search function?

Okay...a quick search came up with this:

HERE

and

HERE

But there is a ton more info about restaurants and bars if you search just a little bit.

As a general rule of thumb if the restaurant is busy it should be ok . Somtimes it is better to eat in the places where the locals eat , price doesn´t always mean quality .

upscale= El Zocalo, assuming it has re-opened, you won't be disappointed.

Yes - I'm well aware of how the search function works - I'm looking for people's personal recommendations since Wilma. Thanks, though.

The search function will pull up past threads about this, which are personal recommendations. There are a couple of wonderful threads, one by JAH and one by Heater, which are terrifice restaurant lists.

Also, we didn't receive any sort of damage from Katrina.

Have a terrific vacation!

I don't think she had any effect on the food on Playa at all. Except for making it tougher for people from LA and other affected states to enjoy it.

We don't have much advice for you, but wanted to tell you to have fun!

We've stayed at Secrets Capri twice and loved it. We're staying in town and doing the non-AI thing on our upcoming trip, but will most likely return to Capri eventually.

I tabulated peoples' recommendations from one of the larger "favorite restaurant" threads. I think people were recommending the "nicest" places, so these are probably all high-end. An asterisk means it was mentioned in the "big list" compiled by Heater in one of the thread. "DM" means it was described as "Don't miss!" in Heater's list. A plus sign means it's in the playa.info directory of restaurants (i.e. those that give a Playa Card discount). The number to the left is how many times each restaurant was recommended by random individuals. Not having been to PDC myself yet, I can't speak to the accuracy of this list, but I'm planning to try the top 5-6 when I'm there in January.

6 Zocalo (+)
5 Yaxche (*) (+)
5 Glass Bar
3 Babes (DM) (*) (+)
3 Chicago Don Jose (+)
3 Byblos (+)
2 El Oasis (DM) (*) (+)
2 Media Luna (*) (+)
2 La Parilla (*)
2 Ula Gula
1 Playa Maya (*) (+)
1 Los Carboncitos (+)
1 Casa Mediterranea (*)
1 John Gray's Place (DM) (*)
1 Pizza Pazza (*)
1 Ajua
1 Apasianado
1 Fly Bar
1 Blue Cheese on Steak
1 Casa del Agua
1 Karen's
