Wow, you ARE dredging up some old threads, aren't you?
I know, though, it is exciting to plan another trip to Playa! I'd better start looking into flights myself and get my countdown timer going again....

Flights!

Me too! Still waiting on formal authorization from the boss, but it looks like I may already be too late to get XMas week! I was hoping to leave around the 22nd, but all the flights for that day are booked, and everything around it's going fast :
I was reading through the Intros forum, and came across your report links. I've enjoyed every one of them so far! I started out thinking I was going to read the current page of intros, and then post my own. Then, I got lost in trip reports and photo albums and galleries!

Thanks for reading my reports and good luck with the flights! I've never tried booking so close to the holidays.

Where are you looking?
Check out Escapes.ca | Vacation Packages | Last Minute Deals | All Inclusive Vacations | Discount Flights.

I found several flights leaving Calgary to Cancun around the 22nd, 23rd. But the prices are steep. One that is TBA leaves on December 21st for one week and it priced a bit cheaper, total of around $1280.

Some may have not even be scheduled yet, too, keep in mind.

Thanks for the tip. I do have one disadvantage, as I don't do plastic. However, there's an agent just down the road whom I'm sure I can point in the right direction, and his sign says he takes cash! I've gotten enough verbal approval that if I don't hear by Friday, I'm going to pay him a visit!
Not much into the AI thing, but I might see if they'll let me take their AI week to get acquainted, and have them extend my airfare a couple more weeks. We can look around for the first week, and find something basic, comfy and on the cheaper side. I did something similar last year on the West Coast of your beautiful country, and want to get in as much time as I can possibly muster. Our plant is closed Christmas week, so that's an extra bonus if I can work it in!

AFTERTHOUGHT:

Checked all the links on the first page (I isread the date the first time. It's actually the 20th.) and they ALL come up "Flight not available." when you click Select Flight.

West coast of Canada? I am from one province to your east. On most charters you can only get airfare up to two weeks at a time, just so you know. There are often last minute cheap flights/packages to CUN available from Calgary, even at xmas....the problem would be finding a hotel over the holidays, in Playa that can be downright impossible I hear.

sorry caramba for the highjack!

Hey Caramba! I read the whole dang Trip report over last night! Paul says you missed your calling in life... you should have been a writer.

I told him there is time for that when you have to slow down.... but not now!

Can't wait for another year, and more fodder for the book....

Not a problem- it's an old thread! But, CalgaryDerek, you might get more responses regarding flight ideas, etc. if you start a thread that has a better title than this one!

Oh, and thanks, Harris! You know I love to write.

Bump for a very well written trip report.... You should write for a vacation magzine or write vacation brochures...

It is so great that some of you take time to write these reports. It really does help some of us plan our trips....

It helped me decide to go to Playa instead of Cancun and to get a condo at Xaman Ha....

Thanks again.

Awww, thanks, Mike! I find it easy to write about the places I love....
Glad I could help sway you to stay in Playa, and I think you'll love Xaman Ha.
Now, if I can just find time to finish my current trip report .... hopefully I can get back to it tonight.
