My Trip Report
My trip to Playa was awesome, if anyone is thinking about weather or not you should go.... I'm telling you....GO! It's great, we stayed at the Iberostar paraiso beach and the resort and the beach was in perfect condition, as were the beaches in downtown Playa. I'm way to lazy to give a day by day or minute by minute report of my stay there, so I will just say that everything was great except it rained hard for about two hours on us at Xel-Ha, but that was not that bad we just took that time to eat, anyway my wife, my daughters and even my in-laws had a wonderful time as did I, so trust me, go to Playa, it's beautiful, you'll have a blast!
......and yes, I was a good boy and stayed out of jail. LOL |

We had a lot of fun in Playa, the water is so darn pretty you can sit for hours and just stare at it. The people are very friendly too, our resort was awesome, I still need to go through all the pics. |

What is the best day to go, weekday or weekend?? We are at the Viva Wyndham Maya from Jan 13-20. We visited Cozumel last October but were only there for the day, swam with the dolphins and loved it. So, as you can see our Mexico experience isn't very extensive.
Any info you can give me about the area and what we should make sure to see or do is greatly appreciated. Thanks |

BassBud,
My wife and I will be at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya on Jan 22. I am so confused on whether we should go to Akumul for snorkeling or go to Xel-HA.. My wife is not a big swimmer, but will give snorkeling a try with a life jacket.. Also, I have read reports of a lot of rock in the water at Iberostar Paraiso resorts and I love to body surf... should I plan on bringing lots of bandages? ![]() What did you think of the food at the resort... I have to laugh because the reviews on foods are so subjective... I heard someone complaining about the breakfast buffet that it never changes.. yet at each buffet you can get omelets to order... sounds good to me..... I am pumped... first time out of the country for me(usa) and first time without the kids for the wife and I in 17 years!!! ![]() |

Okay, the food was pretty much resort food, the same as what we had in Cancun a couple years back. It looks awesome, but taste average to me, but there is so much to choose from, there were quite a few things that I found tasty, so I stuck to that stuff. One thing I noticed about the food is the meat doesn't taste quite the same as it does in the states, but it isn't bad just different. I've never been to Akumel but Xel-Ha is awesome and safe for your wife, even my wife does snorkeling at Xel-ha and shes scared of everything. lol If you do go to Xel-Ha, walk the trail first and take the tube back, then snorkel all over that park, hit the cave and cenotes, you can also swim with the dolphins too, after that take the walk over to the beach, not good for swiming right there but its beautiful, and you can kick back in a hammock and relax, try to take in as much of Xel-ha as you can fit into your one day there. I've always went on a weekday, I don't know if it's more busier on weekends or not. Well, CdnNascar and pporonto, you guys have fun, don't worry about anything, I'm telling you that Playa is in good shape, Xel-ha kicks @ss, and the Iberostar resort is awesome...hugh but awesome. |

We are both so excited about this trip. This is only the second time in the past almost 17 years that we have taken a tripn without our kids. The last all inclusive we did was in 1989 in Venesualla, a very long time ago.
I am so looking forward to snorkelling, haven't done it before but it's something that I really want to do. We swam with the dolphins last year in Cozumel and that was really cool. Thanks for all the info and yes, when we get back I will give a full report. |
