Sandos Caracol Beach & Spa

My wife and I are planning a trip on Jan.28th and see this resort is just re-opening that weekend. The price is pretty good for the area at but I'm concerned about it just reopening that weekend and how functional everything would be. I understand renovations were done in November that bumped its rating to a 4 star (though I've seen ratings from 2.5 - 5 on different sites so I'm not sure what to make of its rating??).

Anyone know or heard what the state of the resort is? Is there a beach left after the hurricane? Any info would be greatly appreciated!!
Tyler J.

edit: ooops! I may have put this in the wrong thread. Sorry mods.

Had friends who returned just before Xmas from there & said it was a very beautiful resort, seemed like everything was in order. Hope this helps.

Thanks jmac! I appreciate the info!

*Edit: They stayed at this resort or just saw it? The reason I ask is that it is currently closed until Jan. 27th (I assumed due to hurricane damage) so its strange it was open at Christmas. Unless it is closed now for other renovations not related to the hurricane??

I'm still a little hesitant about going the weekend it opens. The price is right though at $1027 CDN (plus tax) pp from Toronto.

We were scheduled to stay @ the Sandos Caracol January 28th but because of the re-opening date was Jan 28 or Feb 2nd depending on where you look Signature moved us to the Gran Bahia Principe Coba with small additional cost.

This has been very helpful for me as well - a group of us are planning to stay at the Caracol in mid-February. I'm very curious as to the condition of the hotel - I hope we didn't make a mistake by booking there. If anyone reads this who has just returned, PLEASE let the rest of us know what you thought. Thanks!

Tyler and Eclaire (or anyone)
We are thinking of booking for Jan 28. When did Signature rebook to the Gran Bahia? Is anyone going to Sandos Caracol on Jan.28? Has anyone heard anything recently?

Thanks!

I posted a question in the forum at tripadvisor and got this response yesterday:

"I spoke to management again today and they said everything should be up and running 100% by Jan 27th."
