Just got back

...from the Riu Tequila.

We had never been to an all inclusive or the mayan riviera before.

It was a good trip, even with our four kids.

A few comments:
Service was excellent. Nice people. Clean. Rooms fine. Beautiful beach and ocean.
There are a few topless women running around.
The food is good, but not great. Beer was fine, all corona. I am no wine expert, but the wine tasted poor to me.
Mixed drinks ok. I targeted the Mexican dishes, which were good. The steak restaurant is good. The mediterranean is only fair.

They have a thing about towels at the Tequila. They must be having a cost issue with lost beach/pool towels or something. You get a card for each towel and must turn the cards in at the end of your stay to not be charged a penalty for the towel lost or not returned. Pain in the rear, especially trying to keep track of kids towels.

If you go to Chichen Itza, it is a 3 hour bus ride each way. Be forewarned, you cannot to inside the large pyaramid ("castillo") anymore.

Snorkeling was fair. We snorkeled at a place between Cancun and Playa at a "national reserve". I don'y know if it was damaged by the hurricaine or not but it was not as good as when we snorkeled in Hawaii.

Overall, a good trip and would do it again.

We stayed at the Tequila last year. I thought it was a great resort, minus the fact that it wasn't on the beach. The pool bar was a blast though and they do have a cart that will take you back and forth.

The only problem I had with the place were the beds. They were double beds pushed together and they would push apart just as easily. But the rooms are only for a place to crash. Overall, I really enjoyed the place too and would go back for sure!

I have never been to mexico but i know i want to stay in an all inclusive place so i can get free drinks for a week. Is this place the best all incluse for the price? is corona the only beer they have?

If you check around you can get great deals on the AIs. I work with a travel agent and tell her what I want and when I want to go and they get us within that price. So, it depends on what area you want to go to where you will want to stay. Check around, they are all nice, at least the ones that I have stayed in.

And no, Corona is not the only beer they have. But don't go expecting to so Miller Lite or anything American like that. It's Mexico, you drink Mexican beer, which is really good!

Have fun! It's a great time no matter what you choose.

They also had Modelo Negra when I stayed at the Tequilla last year. A fine darker Mexican beer. We really enjoyed the Tequilla when we there. Good price, nice resort. Very nice poeple working there. Good luck and have fun.

I'm going to the Sandos Gala in March. This is a AI resort. It's not a 5 star but it has a nice beach, food is pretty good, and the people are friendly. There are so many good AI's, it is hard to recommend just one. http://www.locogringo.com/playa/gala...ort%20Playacar

This web site will give you a idea on some good resorts in the Playacar area. They are all in walking distance to PDC and it is a very safe area. This time of the year it is a little harder to get into some of the resorts. The Iberostar is supposed to be pretty nice also. Last year some of the beaches in front of some of the resorts had been washed away. So if you pick a resort, make sure they still have a beach. Just go on the form and ask someone that has been there.

There's a whole forum area on this website dedicated exclusively to the subject of AIs and Big Resorts on the Riviera Maya/Playacar area- it's filled with good info, especially pay attention to Shammy's posts as she is a travel agent and gives a good insider perspective.
