In Playa / Playacar Jan 21 - 28, also, a Riu question

My wife and I are coming down again with 2 other couples, all in our upper 20's to upper 30's, and are staying at the Riu Playacar. We'll be at the pool bar most of the time, so come say hi! We were last there about a year and a half ago, and stayed with Steve at Playa Maya - which we loved!! We just wanted to try the AI thing this time. How far is the walk to Tequila, if we want to hit the disco?
For dinner at Riu Playacar, do the guys still have to wear pants? And would any shirt be ok, or must it have a collar?

The Tequila is down the street from the Playacar - just a little bit. It's a VERY easy and safe walk at night as there are lots of people coming and going from the Tequila disco back to the other Riu resorts.

I don't think that you have to wear pants into the buffet at night anymore, but don't quote me, and I'll let someone else who might know verify that for sure. You do have to wear pants at the ala carte restaurants and your shirt doesn't HAVE to have a collar, but it should be a nice shirt - not a tee shirt. Come to think of it, I guess most nice shirts do have collars anyway.

Just read a post on another board by Trish who we met at the Palace last month. She ate one evening at the Playacar (she has pull there) and says shorts are ok for men and shirts with sleeves. I don't know if she was referring to just the buffet or the specialty restaurants as well. At the Palace I'd guess about 10% of the men were now wearing tshirts (no collars) in the buffet for dinner and one night saw one in a specialty restaurant. Some of them were pretty sloppy tshirts as well.

Jimmy, Sorry, can't help with your question because this will be our first visit to Playa, but, my wife and I will be staying at the same resort from 23-30. Probably see you at the pool bar. Paul

Paul, sounds good, we'll see you there. The pool bar there is pretty cool. You'll see two tall guys and one bigger guy - Jimmy, Geremy, and Geno, plus the girls will be around, too! Have a safe trip!

Thanks for the help Shammy, we have a couple friends that stayed there during Wilma, unfortunately, but we will ask what/if they know.

Thanks Jimmy, You'll be there a couple of days before us, so please don't drink all of the alcohol before we arrive! See you at the pool bar, Paul

Yes Heather, please fill us in. I agree with K and P. Charging for drinks at the Tequila disco???? Only Riu in the Caribbean that I know of that charges for drinks is the casino in the Palace Macao in Punta Cana because the casino is open to the public.

We were at the Tequlia last May and they didn't charge us for drinks at any of the resorts. It may have changed since then though.......It's been almost a year :-(
