This reminds me somewhat of when a plane crash occured in the 80's, I don't remember all the details, but basically what ended up happening was that families were not able to be notified before they arrived to the airport to pick up their loved ones. I get chills just thinking of it. So they show up to pick them up, only to find out they were dead. How horrifying.
I heard on the radio this morning. How terribly sad. |

Journalism is currently a joke. They eavesdrop with their parabolic mikes and report anything without even one or two reliable sources. Maybe journalism has always been a joke. How many years have the big 3 been feeding us news that is about as reliable as Rathers national guard memo?

My godson is down in a salt mine outside of Wichita Ks as we type... I told him two months ago, if that's the only job you can find, move but, I do love Ms. Mapes "It's the public's job to prove it isn't true"..... what a business philosophy !!! I'm suprised Fox hasn't jumped on that wagon with a "Hillary is a transvestite" report |

I have been following this from the beginning but made no comment on account of having been acused of insensitivity elsewhere.
It deeply saddens me that these miners, hard workers and family men that they seem to have been couldn't find refuge from the poisoned atmosphere that was to cause their demise. At the same time - and putting things in perspective - they are a reminder of the thousands of other - unsung - miners who die every year from appalling working conditions in countries such as China. No one should let prejudice blind them and exclusively blame the media for wrong reporting; all news organizations have deadlines and wrong reporting may have been caused by the inability to "stop the presses" after the mining company corrected their incorrect communiqué (which, it is beginning to transpire, they knew for a while to be erroneous). Anyway, the media didn't kill anyone, lack of oxygen did. |

It does. "Hearing both sides before rushing to conclusions" does too. Knowing how newspapers are put together also helps. You could start here. |

However, if in your modesty you consider yourself unworthy of lecturing others - as you put it - why do you allow yourself to accuse a whole industry without knowing the full facts first? Why do you go from reading the governor and mine officials may have been the ones who put out incorrect information, to blaming the media who simply reported what they thought were reliable facts - coming from where they did?
