Need help choosing
I will be visiting Playa March 11th for a week with my hubby. We've been there a few times before, stayed at the Continental Plaza - great location, the Iberostar Tucan - nice place...kinda jungly, and the Riu Playacar (favorite so far)...but we like to try different places. We're thinking about the Barcelo, but I love to play in big waves...and from what I've read, it sounds like mostly calm waters...is this right? Any other suggestions? We like to go into Playa Del Carmen a few times during the week, but other than that, we stick by pool and beach (for those big waves and fruity drinks). Or should I get over the big-wave thing, because the Barcelo sounds so cool...

Barcelo wave action does vary but if it is wavy then the snorkeling is worse. I don't think you will get the wave action on a normal basis. But the resort is wonderful. You could always go on a day trip to somewhere with waves. (Someone else will have to direct you on that.)
The pools are huge and the beach is awesome - you never have to worry about finding a chair at either. Love that! For more info on Barcelo Maya - check out http://www.unofficial-barcelo-maya.com Good Luck! |

The cab's about $20 with tip. You're close to Tulum, which is nice if you want to visit there. There's also a cenote (underground cave filled with clear fresh water) across the street.
And as vacation bound said, there ain't much of a wave thing going on there, which makes for decent snorkling right off the beach. You won't find that at most other resorts. I'm going back there for my second time this April. I've also been to Rui Palace, IB* Paraiso, and Grand Palladium and I like Barcelo the best. |
