I wrote an answer, a nice musical answer to the question "What am I", written by Paul Simon, but I guess it got moderated, or disappeared into cyberspace. I am so sad and feel so invalidated.

Rosca De Reyes...

One piece has a baby jesus inside..whoever gets that peice has to host a big party (tamales, obviously) for everybody else..and there is something to do with a white gown..or christening dress...or something (JLSL, what am I missing???)

When we were living in Playa, we became good friends with Luis and Lucy (Jlsl of this forum) who were both orignally from Mexico City. I was very keen to learn all the customs and ways of the country I was now a part of, and I was Luis and Lucy were always helpful to teach me! And they taught us of this tradition.

Rosca De Reyes ...and yes whoever gets the piece with the plastic baby Jesus has to host the Tamales party .Tradition has it that years ago when the" baby Jesus " was much bigger and made of china you had to take it to the church to get it blessed on Feb 2nd ( Dia de la Candelaria ) . This is a Catholic tradion .

But waht aboutthe dress? There's something about the christening dress..

Okay, I'll succumb to a tie.

Oh, and JLSL is his "forum moniker". His name is Luis in real life, and he hasn't visited here much lately because I think he's busy with work. His family are wonderful, and live in Playa. My kids and their kids became fast friends, and still communicate almost daily via MSN.

Some misers have been known to swallow the baby Jesus model to avoid having the mandatory party!

Is this a form of sacrilege?
