Hi, We are arriving Jan 14, 2006.
Any reviews? 1. HOw is the disco? Probably typical of AI's. Go to town. You are close. 2. How is the beach after Wilma? Wilma who? You would never know. 3. Can you walk to Playa Del Carmen on the beach to town? Walk, yes. Along the beach. I don't know, but I would imagine. 4. Nightlife where to go for age group 25 and up? Yes. But you know that now.

[quote=bubblesss]Hi, We are arriving Jan 14, 2006.
Any reviews? 1. HOw is the disco? Disco was not available at Azteca when we were there last June. It wasn't closed due to storms, it was closed due to lack of interest. They were using the bar as a quasi-disco at the time. The disco at the Viva Maya was ok - but I concur with the rest: go to town - far superior. 2. How is the beach after Wilma? From what I understand, there's more beach and less shade - the palapas at Viva Maya haven't been rebuilt, but could be they have at Azteca. Anyone know? 3. Can you walk to Playa Del Carmen on the beach to town? You can walk the beach, it's a little quicker than the streets, but there's one section of beach that you can't access because of seawalls. That could be different, post-Emily/Wilma, but if not, you can easily walk around via the gravel road in front of the condos at seawall and then back down again. Nice to do, but quicker still to take a bike, much nicer little ride. The hotel provides bike locks for while you're in town. Best mode of transport in Playacar. 4. Nightlife where to go for age group 25 and up? Go have dinner at the Viva Cafe in town (concierge at the hotel will make reservations for you - but make them the first day you're there for the night you plan to party) and then you have excellent choices for nitelife thereafter. Right outside the front door. Thank you No problemo - and have a GREAT time - report back here when you return, we'll be heading down for 3 weeks in May/June so I'm anxious to hear your thoughts! :p |

Hello all! We will be at the Azteca starting this Thursday March 16th and will post some comments when we return. I have read many reviews and for the price, I think it's a good choice for us with two kids ages 13 and 15.

Best your 15 year old stay home the - these resorts are frequented by many Europeans who think nothing of topless - chances are if you do not make a big deal about it - he will take your lead and not make a big deal of it. I must have walked past 3 before it registered in my head. They do not stand around waving flags so you will notice them.

Although the beach still has very large sandbags burried, there is still plenty of beach to enjoy. I posted aerial and beach pics on my trip pics thread. They do a nice job of cleaning the beach and seaweed every day and they even added a few new palm trees and palapas while we were there. They planted the trees at night. Let me know if you have any other questions and I'll look for a few more beach pics later. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and the Azteca exceeded our expectations.
