Last year during our trip to tulum...we did something i want to do again...but it was dark and i was drunk...so its not clear at all. I recall it was north of la vita e bella. it was a small rsort...and there was a reggae party going on. Just some travellers playing music and doin fire shows and there was a small bar...just cant remember where it was , but if i remember right...they have this party one night a week.

There are two places that fit the description:
1. Santa Fe, an extremely budget cabana camp that caters to the nomadic traveler. They have a long makeshift lounging area with tables and hammocks built under a rickety pole barn complex which has bar/food service on one end of it. They also have this ugly little shelter near the beach with a service window for serving drinks... no stools but 2 or 3 plastic chairs lined up below the window facing the ocean. There's a sizeable open area between the two where performers sometimes do fire stuff and skits at night. There's also a diveshop tucked behind and to the south of the beach bar. 2. Zazilkin (formerly Don Armandos) caters to a more hippie artistic crowd. This place is a more upscale compared to Santa Fe and is much closer to the beach road than to the beach. They have a sizeable covered concrete structure which houses the facilities where you'd purchase drinks and food, On the ocean side of that building is an open-air finished patio where people tend to congregate at night and create their own entertainment. The area between this main building and the beach is crowded with cabanas that each have their own personalized name. Jimmy Last edited by JimmyMN : 01-07-2006 at 10:53 PM. |

I'm watching a 3-day flight that leaves here on Jan 27th and returns on the 30th. If I get the deal, Jan and I would make it a high-velocity weekend with a Sunday night stay at a cabana in Tulum. I'll be back in Mexico again at the end of February for a full week or more, so if I'm going to go this month it has to be a short trip.
