Help! Driving Cancun – Chitzen Itza - Playa

I’m returning to Playa in late Jan. with two friends, and for this trip we plan to rent a car at the <ST1:pCancun</ST1:p airport, drive to Chitzen Itza for the first night and, after touring the ruins and area, drive via Tulum and up to Playa for the rest of our stay. I’ve read a number of threads from peeps that rented cars and I’ve seen references to a couple of rental agencies, but I’m finding choosing which one – and how to go about it – to be more difficult than I thought.

I've been looking at both Executive and Easyway for the end of this month. I got a car for a couple of days from Executive last spring and was pleased with the service, but the weekly rate from Easyway - including all associated insurance - is wa-a-ay cheaper. Like almost half! (Rates based on <ST1:pCancun</ST1:p airport pick-up/drop-off.) Does anyone have any experience with them? What about the tried-and-true Hertz/Avis?

I need to get something reserved soon, so any advice or help will be greatly appreciated. Also - any thoughts on the Cancun-Chitzen-Playa trip? What not to miss (besides the ruins!)? I haven’t done much driving in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><ST1:pMexico</ST1:p, but this seems like an interesting way to see more of the country.

Great question Meems! I am soon heading back to Playa myself with some friends and we were thinking of making a similar road trip. I have not rented a car on previous trips and would love any advice anyone has to offer.

I've used Easyway about seven times so far and have reservations with them for peepfest. They are a small family owned operation with an office in Playa, Cancun and Merida. I have nothing but praise for their service. They are there to greet us at the airport, we do the paperwork done at their office and onto the beach in about 15 minutes. You should be patient with correspondence as they are a small organization, but Andres will treat you right. PM me if you need more info

I have just checked out Easyways web site, and it says that all insurances are included in the posted price. Is this true? If it is, and they are as reputable as you say, I may change my reservations for next month. I have a great rate with Hertz, but it does not include insurance, and I am sure they charge the airport tax. Thanks in advance for your info. Cathy

Thanks for the advice. Any idea why they're so much cheaper? Since the insurance is included I guess you don't have to go the credit card coverage route.
Have you booked on line or contacted them directly?
