Did you get a digital camera for Christmas?
It seemed that marketing made everyone believe that digital cameras were on everyone's wish list this Christmas.
Did you get a digital camera and if so what kind? What are the features you like or dislike about it? I'm leaning towards the Kodak EasyShare 740 because it has a 10x optical zoom and it is easy to use. A colleague of mine has one and I borrowed it and loved it. The quality of prints are wonderful, even the 8X10 ones. Some people might not like it because it isn't one of those teeny pocket ones but I really think that it's the one for me. Would love to hear from others... |

Silverfish..
Who am I to tell what camera to buy, but if want some solid advice..DO NOT buy that camera. I'm looking to purchase a digital myself and have done some extensive research. My friend got one for Xmass and it constantly turns itself off. This will drive you insane. He knows two other people that have them and their camera does the same thing. Actually, I should confirm that we ARE talking about the z740 correct? Go to check out any kodak review site and see for yourself, you'll find out what I'm talking about. Good luck! Shawn |

My vote goes to the Canon A620 which replaces the already fabulous A95 with even more gusto. The big improvements: *New DigicII processor that delivers nearly instant power-on and faster processing. *Faster & more reliable focusing than the A95 *Improved Movie Mode at 640x480 *Improved CCD sensor Replaced my A95 with this model as a backup to my Canon G3. If you want a budget camera that'll make you look like a pro... the Canon A620 will do the trick. In fact, it's nearly impossible to take a bad photo. Current price via PriceGrabber is about $325 to your door. Here's are some links from DpReview that gives their synopsis: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona620/ http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canona620/page14.asp Last edited by JimmyMN; 01-10-2006 at 02:53 PM. |

I have the Sony Cybershot, the newer model, not sure of the model # but I love it! I had and older one and dropped it 1 to many times and broke it, I got a HP one after that and it was the worst camera I have ever used. Returned that one and got another Sony.

As for Sony, I think the bulk of their cameras produce colors that are as realistic as Canon. Of course, my lack of love for Sony Corporation puts their products on the ignore list. But... all is not perfect with Canon either. Their IXUS camera models, those that start with the prefix SD are crappy and should be ignored too. I love my Nikon coolpix 5200. You can use it as an auto point and shoot or customize the settings for a manual effect. I'm planning on buying the underwater housing for this trip.

The only advice I can offer is to not let it sit in the box for 22 months before you have the courage to take it out and learn how the hell to use it.
Not that I'd know anything about that. I read it somewhere. Yeah.... that's it. I read it somewhere!!

I can relate to the "how the hell to use it", Karen!I got mine as an early Christmas present for our trip to Playa in November. I know how to take pictures and play them back but that is it. Mostly I want to learn how to download them to my PC so that I can finish my trip report with pics. I am hesitating because it makes me a little nervous - I am so tech challenged it's no funny. I will have to buy the "Digital Camera for Dummies" book. It was recommended to me. Thanks JimmyMN for helping me out that night, I wouldn't have known what to do. I have some great pics of you and all of us girls mauling you!! Mine is a Canon PowerShot A520, I like it and it's not too big either. |
