computer geeks
My PC has a dreaded blue screen with a message like this:STOP: 0x0000007B (parameter1, parameter2, parameter3, parameter4)
INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE From what i can pull off the Microsoft site and from my very limited knowledge it sounds like I might have some type of virus ?????? Now what do I do to fix it....get someone or is there something I can do??? Any help is appreciated! I'm dying not being able to get to some of my emails and my girls will not be happy if they can't get to their homework stored on the computer! I will owe someone big time if you can help out!!! |

Ahhh... the BLUE SCREEN of DEATH
Most Windows2000/XP messages of this sort present only a minor clue to the underlying problem. If I had 10 computers with the same exact error message, the solution (if possible) would probably be totally different for each. Most blue screen issues can't be resolved over the phone. The fact that it's alluding to an "inaccessible boot device", leads me to believe it's likely a boot virus or trojan. How do I remedy them? I'd clone your current hard drive (the patient) and attach it as a secondary drive in a computer with the latest virus definitions and then perform a full scan. The reason I don't work on the original is due to the possible side effects removing a virus can have... usually corruption of the registry. If I can fix the cloned drive without those side-effects, then I perform the same magic on the original. Got to have that parachute, so to speak. The good news... were not separated by too many miles. If you'd like me to look at it, I will. Oh... and beware of the Geek Squad... they don't take the precautions to protect your data. Just want to make sure you were forewarned! Jimmy Last edited by JimmyMN : 01-10-2006 at 10:50 AM. |

One approach that you could take to try and resolve this issue yourself would be to go out to www.webroot.com and download the trial version of Spybot Search & Destroy. This is very easy to install and execute. I've found this application to be very good at identifing and resolving my virus/worm/trojan related issues.

The first thing I would try is to reboot your computer, and while it is rebooting hit the F8 key continuosly until you get a preboot screen that alows you to boot from last known good configuration if it boots properly after that the problem is a driver conflict. This happens quite often after Chrismas, all the new toys plugging into the computer. If this does not work I would make an up to date bootable virus scan disk form a computer that has a CD burner and a good anti virus solution. The help files from the anti virus solution should allow you to do this.

Ok...I already ahave spybot and Mcafee. Can't get to them because of the blue screen! Tried F8 , opened in safe mode and got to last known good configuration, clicked and still got the blue screen!!! No new toys for Christmas ...except for those darn video Ipods!!! I have a call in to a friend who works on the State of MN. computers...hope he can figure this out since I'm at my limits! I was just proud of myself for getting this far. I think I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous!

Did you make any changes at all in the past couple of weeks, and especially between the last successful boot up and the problem? Changes include adding any hardware for the first time, even if you disconnected it afterward; adding any new software; updating any software (even if it did it automatically and just let you know); etc. If so, let us know.
Try what lexiconmike suggested, and if that fails try again and this time choose to boot to safe mode. If you can get into safe mode but still cannot regularly boot, let us know. |

I am Not having a good computer day!!! I can't open the link posted...can you pm me?
Hmm... computer worked great last night. Wouldn't open this a.m. New digital camera software and Ipod video software added right after Christmas. Not sure about updates since girls use this computer and could have done the automatic update thing. |
